It never rains... A MONTH ago, the Marina Baja was threatened by drought. Now, as the region experi‐ ences its wettest March since 1950, the Guadalest reservoir’s levels had risen from 4.69 to 11 cubic hec‐ tometres by Friday March 25, two cubic hectometres short of the maximum 13 that it can safely hold. “This is great news, these rains have saved 2022,” said Councillor Jose Ramon Gon‐ zalez de Zarate, who is re‐ sponsible for water. He added that as levels continued to rise it would soon be necessary to release water from the reservoir. “But this could have been avoided if the competent body, the Confederacion Hidrografica del Jucar, had dredged the reservoir and improved its sluice gates as we have requested in the past,” he said.

Fifteen cats rescued CAMPELLO’S Local Police rescued 15 cats abandoned in a Muchavista property. The person who fed them had not been seen for several days and was unlocatable, Local Police sources said afterwards. Armed with a court order issued following an offi‐ cial complaint, officers accompanied by the concierge and the president of the Gatos en la Costa (Cats on the Coast) association, entered the property to reach the cats. They immediately fed the starving cats, which were living in unhygienic and unhealthy conditions. Volun‐ teers then ferried them in cat carriers to the Gatos en la Costa shelter.
