You’re being watched THE Amadorio park in Villa‐ joyosa is being equipped with CCTV cameras to dis‐ courage vandals.

Vandalism has been re‐ duced in other parts of the town where security cam‐ eras have been installed and the town hall is hoping for a similar result in the park, explained Parks and Gardens councillor Kiko Car‐ reres.

The CCTV cameras are in‐ cluded in improvements that have begun in the area beneath the railway and road bridges and will even‐ tually continue as far as the river‐mouth.

The drip‐irrigation system is being replaced, more than 1,000 aromatic shrubs are to be planted, while bench‐ es, streetlamps and the chil‐ dren’s play area will be re‐ painted.

PALACE SETS No contest TAILS WAGGING

MARIA JOSE CATALA, the Partido Popular’s regional sec‐ retary general, described a recent Valencia City meeting as a “feminist coven.”

The Otras Politicas meeting was attended by women members of left‐wing parties including Yolanda Diaz, Spain’s Labour minister.

Monica Oltra, Generalitat vice‐president and also Equality department head, said she was proud to be a feminist and to attend the gathering.

“Between witch and Inquisitor, I know whose side I’m on,” she declared.

Competition time AFTER a year without compe‐ titions, 32 members of the Valleys International Bridge and Social Club competed for the President’s Cup. They met at the Jaleo restaurant in Pedreguer for a very close competition and despite having played togeth‐ er for only a few weeks, the winners were Marion de Hav‐ illand and Perlie Harris.

Tina Hill and John Drewery, just one point behind, were the runners‐up.

Cats taken to safety TANYA ELLET, two volunteers from Benissa’s animal shelter and a neighbour removed 15 cats and kittens from unbearable conditions in Senija.

“I found out about the situation in July and ran round in circles for three months with various authorities,” Tanya told the Euro Weekly News.

“They were shut in a dark room in a Senija apart‐ ment with one bowl of cat litter between them,” she said.

“When it was full the owner just emptied it in a cor‐ ner of the room. Until August they survived on bread alone.”

Tanya contacted the Guardia Civil and Seprona and learnt that because the cats and kittens had food, wa‐ ter and shelter nothing could be done without a court order.

“I asked the owners of the property to make a de‐ nuncia to obtain this order but they never did,” Tanya added.

After months of persistence, she finally gained entry earlier in November.

“Senija’s mayor and the town hall have been great and agreed to pay for vaccination, worming, defleaing and testing,” she said. “This means they can remain at Benissa’s Protectora de Animales for socialisation and eventual rehoming.”

Tanya stressed Senija’s collaboration: “They embrace the trap, neuter, return scheme and injured and dying street cats are also taken care of.

“We northern Europeans think the Spanish don’t care much for animals, but this is a forward‐thinking village living up to its animal responsibilities,” she said.

Knock-down JAVEA Town Hall must close a Granadella beach restaurant and demolish unauthorised extensions following a complaint lodged by a former council‐ lor with an Alicante court.

The town hall official ap‐ pointed to oversee the de‐ molition faces a fine of up to €1,502 if he or she fails to comply.

BENIDORM Town Hall will provide direct aid for hotels affected by the late arrival of IMSERSO tourists on govern‐ ment‐subsidised holidays.

The pensioners who usual‐ ly arrive in October keep ho‐ tels open during the winter months, but this year’s de‐ lays in awarding contracts to organise the holidays has al‐ ready forced around 10 ho‐ tels to close.

Recycling this amount has prevented 18,006 tons of carbon dioxide from reaching the atmo‐ sphere, equivalent to taking 8,407 cars off the road for a year.

CALPE Town Hall received tiles bearing the names of two local men held prisoner in the Mauthausen and Flossenburg concentration camps. Inheritance convent spat CAMPELLO Town Hall is unlikely to get back the €80,000 it spent on shoring up the Convent dels Frares Mercedaris. The aban‐ doned Mercedarian Friars con‐ vent is privately owned, but in 2019 the town hall paid out this amount to prevent the 400‐ year‐old building from collaps‐ ing. Responding to Esquerra Unida (EU) councillor, Pedro Mario Pardo, at the last plenary council meeting, Campello’s mayor Juanjo Berenguer ex‐ plained that the Heritage de‐ partment, which he also heads, wants to locate the owners of the convent.

“But there is no way of find‐ ing them,” Berenguer admitted.

The mayor also said that the

issue was “very complex” as the building has multiple owners, owing to Spain’s inheritance laws.

“From what I’ve been told, we are not going to locate them,” he told Pardo, adding that the town hall departments involved could not pursue the owners “because we do not know them.”

The EU councillor maintained that the town hall was obliged to comply with the edict re‐ claiming the money that was is‐ sued at the time of the repairs.

“If nothing is done, EU will go to the regional government’s Culture department, without ruling out other legal steps,” Pardo warned.

Child-friendly Guardia Civil THE Guardia Civil’s Altea headquar‐ ters now has a child‐friendly room.

This will come into use during the tense situations when gender abuse victims, accompanied by their child or children, have to make a statement, explained Altea’s Equality councillor Vicente Perez.

The room was inaugurated by the central government’s sub‐delegate to Alicante Province, Araceli Poblador who stressed the importance of the collaboration between the Guardia Civil and Altea Town Hall.

“This initiative shows how joining forces can help the vulnerable,” Poblador said. “Without it, this child‐ friendly space would not have been possible.”

Video club smokescreen THE owner of an Ondara video club will go to prison for four‐and‐ a‐half‐years for drugs offences.

His assistant received a three‐ and‐a‐half‐year sentence and each must pay a €19,000 fine.

Both were repeat offenders ar‐ rested in 2015 for selling drugs, and investigators suspected that they were once again supplying small amounts of cocaine, mari‐ huana and hachis.

Officers raiding the video club last February discovered drugs that would have been worth €12,000 on the street as well as €4,500 in cash.

Although there was no proof that the owner and assistant were dealing from the shop, the police found that they received and stored drugs which they then split into individual doses.

Barbarians mixed fortunes Wine tasting in Moraira THE wine tasting group of Moraira‐Teulada U3A was treated to a presentation from Domingo and Franco of Bodegas Corcovo from Valdepeñas. Domingo gave facts about grape varieties, colour, aroma and flavours, SHOWING PASSION: The Barbarians S16s super six ladies.

THE Barbarians entertained two Valencian teams last Saturday, San Roque for the S16s game whilst the Se‐ niors played CAU in a top of the table clash.

The Barbarians S16s unfor‐ tunately went down to a very big and strong San Roque team, but we have to say what a great perfor‐ mance all the team put in for this hard encounter. Without doubt they are learning the hard way in this league, but can be proud of the effort they all put in. With six young ladies in the team, it’s always going to be a tough encounter against male dominated Valencian teams, but they showed that al‐

though lacking in power, their technical ability and passion for the game shines through. They can only progress in the years to come.

The Seniors were expect‐ ing a hard battle against the CAU ‘B’ team from Valencia, but it turned out to be one way traffic with the BaBa’s running out easy 97‐5 win‐ ners.

Their were some ques‐ tions asked as to why the CAU team had won their two previous encounters in the league, but failed dramatical‐ ly against the Barbarians, and it came to light that un‐ fortunately in their previous matches they may have used

some ineligible first team players that played in the National Honor league. Now, having to put out their real ‘B’ team, their true level came through.

Let’s keep the rugby phi‐ losophy true to the game, honest, hard and fair. If not, no‐one wins.

The Barbarians run Acade‐ my teams from under 14s to 16s to 18s and through to se‐ niors and welcomes every‐ one to come and train and join the club.

Las Chicas Amigas

OUR Chicas Amigas group met this month at Samur Restaurant in Moraira, down towards the Marina. We started outside in the sunshine with a wel‐ come glass of cava and a catch up with friends of all the news. At last, it feels so good to move closer to normality!

We moved inside to our allocated ta‐ bles for our lunch, mostly delicious, and yes, more conversation. Thank you so much to Lynn and her helpers, also to the very pleasant and attentive staff at Samur for a very enjoyable after‐ noon.

There were two whites and three reds, and there was lively discussion around each table on preferences.

It was a very enjoyable evening, held at Sabores 2 restaurant in Moraira, and I suspect that Domingo left with a very empty van! Our thanks to Pat and Brian, Lui and his staff, and of course to Franco and Domingo.

LIFE SAVERS

On Sunday, November 14, Cristine Climent, owner of Benidorm Palace, once again opened the doors of her venue to the Benidorm Dog Homing charity event ‘Save My Life 6.’

THE charity dedicates their time and effort to the welfare of abandoned, sick and ne‐ glected dogs and Cristine has supported them for many years. Dona Sandland is one of the charity’s organisers and helps to ensure that the dogs receive much love and the best health care possible. She said: “We get as many as we can out of shelters, get them healthy and search for the right homes for them in Germany or the UK with complete back up service once there. Over the last seven years we have built up a great working trust with good rescue associations. We take full responsibility once we get a dog out of the shelter.”

The event included two of its four legged heroes who stole the show and melted hearts on stage at the beginning of the event. Mitcham and Gordon are two examples of exactly what the charity does to help dogs from start to finish. They have benefited greatly from funds previously raised after becoming victims of Leishmaniasis, a very destructive disease that can cause blindness and organ failure in dogs. Sadly, Gordon lost both of his eyes, but has benefited from no further organ damage due to contin‐ uing treatment. Mitcham has 20 per cent of his sight saved in one eye thanks to fundraising and dedicated care by volunteers. One lady, Norma Judd, accompanied by her brother from Wales, said: “I collect change during the whole year especially for the charity, every penny counts.”

The event was hosted by Tim Ames who kindly stood in at the last minute as Benidorm’s popular Miss Levi was unable to attend due to illness. The line‐up was incredible with acts from Benidorm such as Heidi, Benidorm Fantastics, WestLife Tribute, Chris Chronos, Matt Fisher and Girlsaloud all giving their free time to help. The Palace’s very own entertainers David Climent, Rubel Medini, Kimberly Lester, Jastin Montiero, Tito Lester, and Samantha and Sandy also gave up their time.

Finally, The Greatest Show, produced by Universal Ents, brought the evening to a spectacular end. They came all the way from Blackpool, paying their own expenses to perform at the event. Max Fox, creative director of The Greatest Show said: “It has been a great honour to perform in such a great venue for a cause I have a personal passion for.”

During the event an auction was also held with many prizes donated from local businesses. The community gave this great cause all the support it deserves, queuing well before opening with all tickets sold out. A big well done to all involved.

Despite the Palace only being at 75 per cent capacity due to Covid restrictions, the event raised an incredible €15,374.54. All funds were counted in front of two represen‐ tatives including one from Euro Weekly News. The money raised will help Benidorm Dog Homing to continue their work of saving lives and improving the quality of life for many dogs.

Thames sharks King and Queen ride the bus A STUDY led by the Zoological Soci‐ ety of London (ZSL) has found that sharks, seahorses, eels, and seals have been found living in the River Thames, 64 years after it was de‐ clared ‘biologically dead.’

Since the 1990s, there has been a rise in the variety of birds, marine mammals and natural habitats in the 215‐mile‐long river.

Shark species such as tope, starry smooth‐hounds and spurdogs are said to be using the water as nurs‐ eries along with over 100 species of fish.

However, there has been a slight decline in the number of fish species found in the tidal areas and further research is needed to determine the cause.

“This report has enabled us to re‐ ally look at how far the Thames has come on its journey to recovery since it was declared biologically dead, and, in some cases, set base‐ lines to build from in the future.”

KING FELIPE and Doña Letizia caused quite a stir in Madrid on Monday, November 15. The royal couple are nor‐ mally seen arriving at public events in a chauffeur‐driven car or by helicopter, but this time they rode a public bus.

The ride was to celebrate the 75th an‐ niversary of the Municipal Transport Company of the capital (EMT), where they presided over the ceremony. Just

like every other passenger, the couple waited in the queue patiently on Calle Al‐ cala for their bus to arrive.

This electric EMT vehicle is totally eco‐ logical, emitting zero emissions into the atmosphere. To the amazement of fellow passengers, the couple was issued with their tickets for the ride. Their bus was on the line 001 service, heading to Atocha station.

Brit passport warning

THE Foreign Office updated their advice on November 15 which says that Brits should confirm their passport has been stamped when entering or exiting the Schengen area via Spain: “If relevant en‐ try or exit stamps are not in your pass‐ port, border guards will presume that you have overstayed your visa‐free limit. You can show evidence of when and where you entered or exited the Schengen area,

and ask the border guards to add this date and location in your passport. Exam‐ ples of acceptable evidence include boarding passes and tickets.”

Holidaymakers could possibly find they need to prove they have enough money for their holiday or prove they have or‐ ganised appropriate accommodation when passing through Spanish border controls.

Partial pardon for Rivas SPAIN’S Council of Ministers are planning to approve a partial pardon for Juana Ri‐ vas, the mother sentenced for the abduction of her two children in 2018. It means her reduced sentence from a Supreme Court ruling in April of two years and six months in prison would be halved to one year and three months.

The mother from Granada would also see her loss of parental custody dissolved in favour of 180 days of com‐ munity service.

Juana Rivas was charged with two offences of child ab‐ duction, one for each child, af‐ ter refusing to return to Italy, where the three were living with Francesco Arcuri, the children’s father. She disap‐ peared with them for a

Spain’s Minister for Equali‐ ty, Irene Montero, was in favour of the partial pardon, stating that the government was taking “decisive steps” to ensure that women and mothers like Juana Rivas, “are not persecuted or criminalised for protecting their children.”

“There are already public policies and a greater social awareness about all forms of gender violence because it in‐ volves using children to attack women where it hurts most, which is with their sons and daughters,” Montero said.

Rivas was ordered to pay €12,000 in compensation to the children’s father.

New inhalable Covid vaccine A NEW inhalable vaccine against the coronavirus has been unveiled in China. The vaccine has been developed

by Chinese biotech company CanSino Biologics in conjunc‐ tion with a team of scientists working with the Chinese army’s infectious disease ex‐ pert Chen Wei. Scientists have been con‐ ducting research that shows that the inhalable vaccine can trigger a similar response to that produced by the cur‐ rent injectable coronavirus

vaccines. At the moment the vaccine is only in Phase II clin‐ ical trials. It has though been permitted to be used for ‘emergency use.’

Work on this new vaccine began at the Zhongnan Hos‐ pital of Wuhan University back in September 2020. This is the same city that was the epicentre of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Hero officers honoured TWO Spanish police officers in Albox, Almeria were honoured for saving a woman from a Brit fugitive. The officers were dec‐ orated with the Green Cross.

In 2017, a local woman had managed to escape from her at‐ tacker and call the police. She said that her life was in danger and that someone was trying to kill her.

Doctors have had to be recalled from holiday to meet the demand for treatment. Stocks of the antidote have also had to be expanded. Symptoms of a scorpion sting include severe pain, fever, sweat‐ ing, vomiting, diarrhoea, muscle tremors, and head spasms.

Bodybuilder storms championships LOCAL man Joe Lester, 25, who lives in La Nucia has stormed the NPC Federation Spanish Champi‐ onships, being crowned the win‐ ner in heavyweight bodybuilding class and in the overall category, overall bodybuilding national champion.

Taking place on Saturday, November 6 in Alicante, the championships saw bodybuilders and physique competitors from across Spain compete for the ti‐ tle.

Joe told the Euro Weekly News: “I started training in the gym when I was around 17 and I didn’t take it too seriously because I was studying and had a job.

“I started to see some changes in my physique and worked at it a bit harder and began investing in the nutrition.”

He added: “A year later I decid‐ ed I wanted to compete and got in touch with my trainer Aser and he’s helped me get ready for all my shows.”

Speaking about winning the NPC Federation Spanish Champi‐ onships, Joe said: “The goal was to win, but it depends who you are up against on the day.

Ancient elephant skeleton found A COMPLETE skeleton of a 120,000‐year‐old elephant calf has been found in Spain. The species is known as Palaeoloxodon antiquus.

The unique remains were discovered in Barcelona’s Rhinoceros cave in Castelldefels.

The elephant calf is be‐ lieved to have been five years old when it died. The calf would have weighed in at around 1,500 kilograms.

The Rhinoceros cave in Castelldefels is known for numerous remains of dif‐ ferent species. Adult Palae‐ oloxodon antiquus remains have been discovered in Eu‐ rope, but the remains of young elephants are hard to find and normally only consist of single bones. This is the first complete skele‐ ton that has been recov‐ ered in Europe.

Claim expenses from the co-owner of the property. Lawyers and expert legal advice.

Expenses that we can include in the claim.

IF we are co‐owners of a prop‐ erty together with another per‐ son, Is it possible to claim ex‐ penses from the co‐owner in relation to the maintenance of

the property? The answer is yes. Yes, it is possible, and in to‐ day’s article we will explain how it can be done. We will fo‐ cus on the case of co‐owner‐

ship of a property, in which one of the two co‐owners never faced any of the expenses. Our law firm has had the opportu‐ nity to advise clients on this type of matter and we explain in this article the key points to take into account.

1. Obligation of the co‐own‐ ers to assume the expenses for the maintenance of the proper‐ ty The Spanish Civil Code stipu‐ lates that the charges of property will be borne by each co‐owner in proportion to their share. In the same way it works with the benefits: each co‐owner will par‐ ticipate in the benefits in propor‐ tion to the quota that has. There‐ fore, if we share 75 per cent co‐ownership of a property with another person, we will have to bear 75 per cent of the expenses.

And the other co‐owner will be responsible for the remaining 25 per cent. Likewise, we will enjoy 75 per cent of the benefits, and

the other co‐owner of 25 per cent of these.

2. Possibility to force the co‐ owner to contribute to the ex‐ penses of the co‐ownership So, what happens if I am the only one who is paying the costs of the jointly owned property?

In this case, we may oblige the other co‐owner to contribute to the co‐ownership maintenance costs. This action is known as a co‐owner reimbursement ac‐ tion.

3. Deadline to start the legal action It is important to note that timing in legal claims is crucial.

Some claims cannot be pursued indefinitely; there is limited time to file for the petition.

The co‐owner reimburse‐ ment action expires after five years, counting from when the obligation could be claimed for.

Let’s take an example: we have been paying exclusively all the expenses of the real estate

co‐ownership since 2001. I have never claimed anything from the other co‐owner until today 2021. We can only claim from 2016.

4. What expenses can we in‐ clude in the claim?

Regarding expenses, those that can be claimed are: ‐ costs of conservation / maintenance of the property ‐ if they are individual and in‐ dividualisable, and ordinary, ‐ and always expenses inher‐ ent to the property.

Certainly, deciding whether an expense is conservation or not, and whether it is also ordi‐ nary or extraordinary, requires a detailed study of each case.

However, there are some very clear expenses that can be included in the claim to the co‐ owner, such as: mortgage ex‐ penses, property insurance, lo‐ cal taxes …

Electricity, water and gas ex‐ penses: jurisprudence

Some clients ask us if it is pos‐ sible to claim from the co‐own‐ er the utility costs (water, gas, electricity, telephone, internet, etc). The answer will depend to a large extent on the criteria of the courts, and there are differ‐ ent jurisprudential trends. Some courts accept the right to claim for the costs of supplies.

Other courts understand that payments for water and elec‐ tricity must be paid, for those who use the property. Thus, if we want to claim the expenses, but we have been enjoying the property exclusively, the supply costs would not be awarded.

Ebola vaccine trials HUMAN trials of the new Ebola vaccine are set to start. The vaccine can hopefully prevent multiple species of the disease.

The vaccine is based on technology like that used to produce the Oxford coronavirus jab. It is hoped that using this technology will have many benefits. The virus causes Ebola haemorrhagic fever.

It is estimated that the 2014‐16 outbreak in West Africa caused over 11,000 deaths. An out‐ break in the Democratic Republic of the Congo that ended in 2020 is thought to have killed over 2,000 people.

Vaccines for Ebola are already available, but they only fight one species of the virus. There are four species of Ebola. The existing vaccines only fight the Zaire species.

THOUSANDS of bees have survived more than 50 days buried at the edge of La Palma volcano. The hives had been buried under a layer of ash since the La Palma volcano be‐ gan erupting in September.

The hives were located only 600 metres away from the centre of the volcano which erupted on September 19.

Elías González, president of the Agrupación de Defensa Sanitaria (ADS) Apicultores de La Palma explained that of the original six hives belonging to the beekeeper, five had been discovered intact. The bees were rescued alive. The sixth hive’s occupants died but González believes that they may have died “not because of the volcano, but because they were already weak.”

The rescue operation took place on November 6. Officers from El Paso’s Local Police car‐ ried out the rescue mission along with support from the Military Emergency Unit (UME) and the Guardia Civil. One of the Local Police officers is a beekeeper.

Biddu loves Marbella

PRODUCER Biddu who has sold millions of records loves Marbella so much that he and his wife Sue split their time be‐ tween the Costa del Sol and Kensington in be‐ tween visits to India.

Although born in Banga‐ lore, the young Biddu found himself attracted to British music and with no radio shows in India found himself excited by the Merseybeat which he could pick up on Radio Ceylon once a week.

He joined a local band playing the music of the Beatles and the Stones but decided that he want‐ ed to visit what he saw as the home of modern pop, so set off on a journey and worked his way across the Middle East singing and playing music before arriv‐ ing in England in 1967 aged 23.

then against his better judgement agreed to record a number for an In‐ dian film producer, but he is now pleased that he did.

“I kept saying no be‐ cause I really didn’t under‐ stand typical Indian pop with sitars and high‐ pitched vocals, but in the end, on the understanding that I could write and pro‐ duce as I wanted, I finally wrote Aap Jaisa Koi for the newly discovered Nazia Hassan and it wowed audiences across the sub‐continent as did the subsequent album.”

Now 75 and married to Sue for 50 years, he has given up performing, but still has his music publish‐ ing company and son Zak runs a hugely successful music event company, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Sir Paul McCar‐ ney and Jay Z.

Denial on pay roads SPAIN denies having agreed on pay‐per‐use roads. The government has said that it has not promised Brussels that new tolls would be im‐ plemented.

New tolls had been in‐ cluded in the Recovery, Transformation and Re‐ silience Plan which was sent to Brussels. The plan was put forward in order to re‐ ceive European funds to help Spain recover from the ongoing coronavirus pan‐ demic.

The government have al‐ so said on other occasions that ‘pay per use’ tolls are needed on dual carriage‐ ways and motorways.

The potential plans have caused much controversy. In the document sent to Brus‐ sels, it states: “It is necessary to develop a system of pay‐ ment for use of the high‐ca‐ pacity road network to cov‐ er maintenance costs.”

Spain has thousands of kilometres of motorways and dual carriageways that are currently paid for by the

government. This is not con‐ sidered to be sustainable and cannot be met by the Spanish budget. A ‘pay‐per‐ use’ system would help cov‐ er these costs and according

to the document could be implemented from ‘2024 onwards’.

Confusion remains over the possible implementa‐ tion of tolls.

A right baby mix-up TWO couples in California gave birth to each other’s babies after a fertility clinic mix‐up.

Daphna Cardinale said she and her husband suspected straight away that the baby girl she gave birth to in 2019 wasn’t theirs due to the baby’s darker complexion.

They learnt about the mix‐up three months later.

Ms Cardinale said during a news conference: “I was over‐ whelmed by feelings of fear, betrayal, anger and heart‐ break.”

The Cardinales have filed a lawsuit against the Los Ange‐ les‐based California Centre for Reproductive Health (CCRH) and its owner, Dr Eliran Mor. Following the mix‐up, both babies have been returned to their biological parents. The families intend to stay in each other’s lives and plan to “forge a larger family,” Ms Cardi‐ nale said.

Probiotic helps Covid recovery A COMPANY based at Ali‐ cante University claims their probiotic helps Covid recovery. There are many factors that can affect how badly someone suffers from Covid‐19.

Numerous studies show aspects such as age and ge‐ netics can play their role in how long someone has symptoms of the illness.

Now there is growing evi‐ dence that gut microbiota also plays a part.

An Alicante‐based start‐ up named Bioithas, located at the University of Ali‐ cante’s science park has developed a probiotic that researchers claim can sig‐ nificantly reduce the time that Covid patients have di‐ gestive symptoms includ‐ ing diarrhoea, abdominal pain, or irritable bowel syn‐ drome.

Probiotics are foods or supplements that contain live microorganisms that

are created within certain levels to maintain the in‐ testinal microbiota. They also boost the immune sys‐ tem. Researchers of Bioithas deduced that “by helping to maintain the in‐ testinal microbiota, the virus would be eliminated more quickly.”

In 2020, they set out to demonstrate their hypoth‐ esis by monitoring a group of 45 coronavirus patients in Alicante Province. The patients were split into two groups, with one group be‐ ing given the probiotic for a month.

“After 30 days we ob‐ served in the group of pa‐ tients taking the product, the symptoms had disap‐ peared in all but one of them,” said Vincente Navarro, head of Bioithas.

He added that half of the people in the control group had digestive issues a month later.

Wind company lawsuits EOLICCAT, the employers’ association that represents the wind energy sector in Catalonia, in a move against the new decree of renewable energies of the gov‐ ernment, has announced that it will sue the Generalitat for administrative inac‐ tion. The entity argues that the process‐ ing of new wind turbine parks has been paralysed pending the new legal frame‐ work since the regional Executive was established in March.

This demand could see the addition of others who will claim they have suffered

damage, and it is estimated that the total claims could amount to as much as €150 million. EolicCat is basing this figure on the assumption that each individual com‐ pany has been hit with losses of around €500,000.

Coin scam warning THE Guardia Civil took to social media to warn about a new scam. They warned: “Watch out!!! These are Turkish lira. They pass for €2 because of their resemblance. #Quenotelacuelen.”

People are aiming to scam others as the coins appear very similar and many people will not even notice the difference. The real value of the Turkish coin though is consid‐ erably less than a €2 coin.

Both coins have a similar size and weight. Reportedly they are being offered up to people and shops and no one has been noticing.

Poll reveals Brexit regret THE results of a recent survey show that vot‐ ers in Britain now want to rejoin the EU. The 2016 referendum fig‐ ures are reversed, with 53 per cent now want‐ ing to be a part of the European Union, while 47 per cent are for stay‐ ing out.

Shortages of goods since Brexit, and the continual arguments with Brussels were two of the main reasons given for the change of heart. As head of re‐ search, Chris Hopkins, explained, “Issues such as disrupted supply chains, and spats with fellow European lead‐ ers about fishing and vaccines, may have cut through, although the results are still on a knife‐edge.” He added, “The Brexit story isn’t going away any time soon.”

A lunar eclipse occurs when the earth passes between the sun and the moon, generating a shadow in which the satellite is placed for a few hours.

As explained by NASA, partial lu‐ nar eclipses are not usually as spec‐ tacular as total ones, where the Moon is completely covered by the shadow of the Earth, but they do occur more frequently.

If the weather permits, the phe‐

nomenon can be seen on Novem‐ ber 19, specifically from 7.02am Spanish peninsular time, when the penumbral eclipse will begin. Later, at 8.01am, the eclipse will reach its greatest magnitude, with the entire moon on the horizon in Spain.

The maximum point of this eclipse, at 10.02am, will not be able to be seen from Spain because the moon will be below the horizon at that time.

To enjoy this celestial spectacle, move away from urban areas, find a clear space without buildings, and look to the west‐northwest hori‐ zon.

A HACKER, who appears to be malicious, man‐ aged to hack into the Federal Bureau of Investiga‐ tion (FBI) email server on November 12. The hack‐ er sent a bizarre message to at least 100,000 people, according to a watchdog group.

The motives of the person are not yet known. It is also not known how far they managed to pene‐ trate the FBI’s email system.

The message sent out made no sense, but refer‐ enced cybersecurity writer Vinny Troia, and a cy‐ bercriminal group called The Dark Overlord.

The hacker gained access to the system using a logon for the Department of Homeland Security’s Cyber Threat Detection and Analysis Group. This department was disbanded a couple of years ago.

It is common for the FBI to send out warnings re‐ garding cyber threats. This is the first time that a hacker has used the FBI system to send spam mes‐

Driving licence renewal costs NEW figures released by DVLA show that drivers missed out on £2.3 mil‐ lion of savings by not renewing their photocard driving licence online.

The agency has revealed that be‐ tween April 2020 and March 2021, around 23 per cent of the two mil‐ lion renewal applications it received were sent in either by post or via the post office. This is despite the

online service being quicker and cheaper.

Going online is the cheapest way to renew a photocard driving licence in the UK. Renewing a pho‐ tocard driving licence using the government website costs £14 and the driver will receive their new li‐ cence in just five days. Posting an application to DVLA costs £17 and

Customers who apply online can also track the progress of their li‐ cence by visiting the ‘track your driv‐ ing licence application’ page on the website. Drivers are legally required to renew their photocard driving li‐ cence every 10 years and will re‐ ceive a reminder from DVLA before their current licence expires.

A RARE Antarctic lost penguin has accidentally found itself on the shores of New Zealand, at least 3,000 kilometres (1,864 miles) away from its natural habitat of Antarctica.

The Adelie Penguin which has now been affection‐ ately named Pingu by locals, was found looking dis‐ orientated on the coast.

The discovery is only the third in history that an Adelie penguin has been found on New Zealand’s coasts, following two incidents in 1993 and 1962.

Hero cops save baby TWO Local Police officers from the Jaen province of Andujar are heroes among the local commu‐ nity after they saved the life of a nine‐day‐old ba‐ by.

As the officers were circulating in their police vehicle on their regular patrol of the area they ob‐ served a man standing on the street holding a very young baby, he was clearly traumatised, and in need of urgent assistance.

Pulling their vehicle over to check the problem, the two officers were confronted with a baby that was obviously in the process of choking and suffo‐ cating, having difficulty in breathing. This led to

their police medical first aid training coming into play, and there on the street, the officers per‐ formed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the baby.

They managed to get the baby breathing regu‐ larly once again, before taking the baby and the father in their patrol car to the Alto Guadalquivir hospital. Health professionals at the facility were subsequently able to stabilise the baby.

A spokesperson for Andujar Town Council con‐ gratulated the two Local Police officers for their in‐ tervention and quick thinking in saving the life of the baby.

Fraudsters conned bank FRAUDSTERS conned a bank out of £45,000 by calling cus‐ tomer services thousands of times. Dario Goncalves and Dwight Watkinson had spent three years repeatedly con‐ ning Lloyds Bank. They had opened numerous online bank accounts using different names then set about ringing the customer services line thousands of times to com‐ plain about each account.

Sheffield Crown Court heard how Watkinson had

called the bank’s customer services department over 5,000 times. Goncalves beat this record and rang the bank over 8,000 times. In the peri‐ od from 2016 to 2020 the pair fraudulently received £44,924 in compensation from the bank. Lloyds Bank was not

the only bank that Watkinson had been scamming.

The bank uncovered the fraud when it launched an in‐ vestigation into the number of calls received by the cus‐ tomer services department.

The pair were sentenced to 27 months in prison.

Counterfeit banknote arrests NATIONAL Police officers, in collabo‐ ration with Europol, have arrested 43 people in 18 provinces throughout the Spanish territory. They were all detained for their alleged involve‐ ment in the crime of introducing counterfeit Euro banknotes into the financial domain.

Two of the detainees, believed to be the ones mainly responsible for the sale, were arrested in Huelva. The

rest have been arrested throughout Spain as buyers of counterfeit €20 and €50 banknotes.

According to a press release from the National Police, this sale of coun‐ terfeit money was being carried out through a profile on a well‐known so‐ cial network. This profile had 1,620 subscribers and subsequently helped lead the officers to initiate the investi‐ gation.

Motor neurone funding

THE UK government is set to invest nearly £400 million in research for neurodegenerative diseases. Re‐ search into motor neurone disease will receive a minimum of £50 million from the new funding.

According to the government: “The full £375 million investment will fund

projects into a range of diseases such as Pick’s Disease, Fronto‐temporal de‐ mentia, Wernicke Korsakoff, Parkin‐ son’s disease, Lewy Body dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive impairment, improving our under‐ standing while searching for new treatments.”

Granada metro extended THE EU will provide €68 million for the southern ex‐ tension of the Granada sub‐ urb line but refuses to fi‐ nance the projects in Sevilla and Malaga because the work would not be finished on time.

So long as there are no unforeseen circumstances, work could begin on the ex‐ tension of the Granada metro before summer 2023. This will take the metro into the municipali‐ ties of Armilla, Churriana de la Vega and Las Gabias, and should be operational by 2026.

There are no current forecasts for the expansion of the other two Andalu‐ cian suburban trains in Sevilla and Malaga. The ex‐ planation lies in the EU’s Next Generation recovery funds which has only agreed to finance Granada.

Inflation at all time high BOTTLENECKS in global production caused by the pandemic and rising ener‐ gy costs are continuing to increase prices for con‐ sumers all over the coun‐ try. There is a large worry that many households will end up under severe pres‐ sure to make ends meet this Christmas season.

The Consumer Price In‐ dex (CPI) had a huge in‐ crease in October, reach‐ ing a high of 5.4 per cent, the highest price increase recorded in 29 years. The massive rise in energy costs is the main con‐

tributing factor to this Spanish inflation, with some household electrici‐ ty bills costing 62.8 per cent more last month than during the same pe‐ riod in the previous year.

Fuel is now 28.6 per cent more expensive in 2021, this is the highest price in four years.

Food is not immune from these increases ei‐ ther, with staples of the Spanish diet such as olive oil facing a 26 per cent price rise. Fresh fruit also rose by 11.3 per cent.

Natural gas has received

a knock‐on effect from the soaring price of electricity as more and more people are turning to this method to heat their homes as the winter nights draw in.

This has caused an 11.3 per cent increase. The same has happened with bicycles due to the huge cost of petrol and diesel, with push bikes register‐ ing a 7.6 per cent price jump.

Analysts from the Bank of Spain have warned that inflation will continue to increase well into next year.

Hunt on for valuable banknotes COLLECTORS are eager to get their hands on certain UK bank notes. The prized £5 notes went into circulation in September 2016, but have recently attracted attention. The notes are made of polymer and feature Sir Win‐ ston Churchill.

The notes to look out for are ones with the serial code starting in ‘AA01’.

Vox wants tougher rules

THE far‐right Vox party has put forth a bill to the Spanish Congress to extend the time it takes for expats to be eligi‐ ble to apply for citizenship. Currently Spanish citizenship for expats, through the mode of residency, takes 10 years of living in Spain. Vox wants to increase that to 15 and make the process of acquiring Spanish nationality more difficult.

The bill was tabled this week at the Spanish Congress of Deputies and Vox leader Santiago Abas‐cal has said that his party wants to guard Spanish nationality “like a treasure.”

Sources say that the party is reacting to an increase in na‐ tionalised citizens in recent years.

One of the current proposals includes a ban on people with criminal records applying for citizenship, whether those records come from their home country or while living in Spain. Another is to enforce higher language standards at the citizenship exam and reinforce them with official certifi‐ cates to show their level of Spanish.

Vox also wants to end all dual nationalities, even though Spain has very few of these arrangements to begin with.

They wish applicants to “present a public document issued by the authorities of their country of origin that certifies the loss of their previ‐ ous nationali‐ ty.”

Spain diabetes crisis WHILE Spain is doing well to suppress a dreaded sixth wave of coronavirus infec‐ tions going into the winter months, another health crisis is on the horizon. A new set of data has shown that the

country has the second‐high‐ est rate of diabetes in Eu‐ rope. Spanish diabetes rates mean that a minimum of one in seven adults are suf‐ fering from the disease ac‐ cording to the International

Diabetes Federation.

This increase isn’t just re‐ stricted to Spain, however, as the study revealed the global number of people living with diabetes has risen by 16 per cent to 537 million adults, a

significant jump from the 2019 results. In Spain, 5.1 mil‐ lion adults have the disease, which costs the health min‐ istry billions of euros.

World Diabetes Day fell on November 14 with charities from all over the world raising awareness of the illness and its effects. This is important work, as almost a third of peo‐ ple living with diabetes in Spain are undiagnosed and untreated which leaves them at risk of serious and life‐ threatening complications.

These can include blindness, amputation, strokes, and kid‐ ney failure.

JUAN LUIS FERNANDEZ GARRIDO, an engineer and inventor from Ex‐ tremadura, claims to have created a generator that can produce elec‐ tricity for the home, free of charge. His intention is “to prevent humble peo‐ ple from having to pay the high price of electrici‐ ty.”

Juan started work as a watchmaker, aged 14, before moving on to as‐ sembling engines, while running a motorcycle workshop. From a very young age, he was al‐ ways interested in elec‐ tromagnetic devices and started designing inven‐ tions with the purpose of helping people.

Singapore will not pay F R O M January 1, 2022, the Singa‐ pore Government will no longer pay for any medical bills related to Covid‐19 for the unvaccinated by choice. The cases in the southeast Asian island are rising with 3,397 cases reported on Tuesday Novem‐ ber 9.

Previously, the government cov‐ ered the cost of any Covid medical bills for all Singaporeans, as well as permanent residents and long‐term visa holders, as long as they did not test positive immediately after com‐ ing back from overseas. From De‐ cember 8 this will change and new charges will be brought in for people who have chosen not to be jabbed.

The January 1 deadline is for the partially vaccinated, so they have time to receive their second dose.

Since then, the government will only pay medical bills for fully vaccinated Singaporeans, permanent residents and long‐term visa holders, provided they have not recently travelled.

THE arrival of Christmas is fraught with uncertainty for the toy industry. The sector makes a large part of its sales in the festive period.

On November 9, the Andalu‐ cian Regional Minister of Econ‐ omy, Rogelio Velasco, did not rule out the possibility that the current supply crisis could also affect the supply of toys this season.

Velasco made special refer‐ ence to toys that need techno‐ logical parts to function, which are mainly manufactured in Asia, where there are issues with microchips.

“In order for the dolls to cry or say mummy or daddy, they need to have these electron‐ ics,” Velasco explained in an in‐ terview, pointing out Spanish manufacturers produce the toys, but some elements arrive from abroad. It is at this point problems can arise in terms of getting them to the shops in time.

He added, “there may be problems in the supply of toys, among other products, be‐ cause microprocessors are now in all electronics.”

During the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, many immigration controls normally conducted in person have been performed over the phone, and around 70,000 foreign criminals were not properly checked.

Officers arrested 61‐ year‐old James Brick of Kentucky, USA, and res‐ cued the young girl. The girl used a signal seen on TikTok that indicates a person is suffering from gender violence.

A car driving behind Brick’s vehicle saw the girl make the sign with her hand and reported the in‐ cident. She had been ab‐ ducted from her home in Asheville, North Carolina.

Brick has been incarcer‐ ated and charged with kid‐ napping the young girl. He was also charged with possessing child pornogra‐ phy.

Spain to finance revolutionary drug Teen saved by TikTok SPAIN’S National Health System, Sanidad, has reached an agreement with Vertex, the Ameri‐ can biopharmaceutical company, over the price of its revolutionary new drug, Kaftrio, that helps treat cystic fibrosis.

In addition, the Min‐ istry highlighted this treatment will be financed in a combined administration regime. The 150 mg tablets are suitable for the treatment in patients 12 years of age or older.

Grandparent scam investigated INVESTIGATORS in the United States are in‐ vestigating the theft of more than $700,000 (more than €600,000) from an 82‐year‐old woman in Tampa, Florida, who was the vic‐ tim of a ‘grandparent scam.’

The scammers harassed the woman throughout the summer of 2021 by telling her that her granddaughter was in legal trouble and therefore needed money. This is how they managed to get the woman to withdraw money from her bank account and hand it over to them.

The money was collected by the car com‐ pany Uber and investigators have requested records of the pick‐ups made at the old wom‐ an’s building.

The scammers called the grandmother on

the phone pretending to be her granddaugh‐ ter, telling her that she had been in a car acci‐ dent and was in jail, court records confirm.

One of the scammers spoke to the elderly lady on the phone and claimed to be the granddaughter’s attorney, convincing the woman to withdraw money 13 times from BB&T branches. They urged the woman to tell the bank workers the withdrawals were to make improvements to the house.

The old woman’s defence attorney sued the bank in September 2021, claiming it was a mistake to allow the woman to withdraw large sums of money without any suspicion.

Uber has been open to collaboration in the case, a company spokeswoman said on Wednesday November 10.

Yet, in Spain, energy companies have assured that this is not possible. Spain does not have a blackout risk, neither by capacity, by generation, nor by distribution. The country’s ca‐ pacity to generate electricity is 107 gigawatts (GW) per day.

In fact, the highest consumption in the history of Spain, be‐ fore the 2008 stock market crash, was on December 17, 2007. On this date, consumers used 45 gigawatts, which is less than half of the available capacity that suppliers can gen‐ erate.

Not even during storm Filomena, when 42 gigawatts were consumed, was there any risk of shortages. The power plants generate twice what the country can consume on any given day. This means there is no risk of a generation collapse, nor is there a risk of nuclear collapse, and if it does, 10 different energy sources are available to back it up every day.

A STUDY has confirmed that by the end of 2023, over half of the drivers in Spain will have to change their car.

Now, a study has con‐ firmed that by the end of 2023, 53 per cent of drivers will have to buy a new car.

The deadline for all cities with more than 50,000 in‐ habitants to design and implement low‐emission zones is 2023.

This will restrict access to the most polluting vehi‐ cles in the centre of these areas.

The project was announced in the presence of Juan Manuel Moreno, president of Andalucia and the Sevilla Refactory will be structured around four areas of activity, from mainte‐ nance to recycling, in order to support the entire life of the vehicle.

The stages are: • Re‐Trofit: reconditioning of used vehicles.

• Re‐Energy: repairing and develop‐ ing applications for batteries in sec‐

ond life such as energy storage.

• Re‐Cycle: for recycling, resource management and the manufacture of E‐TECH gearboxes.

• Re‐Start: a training and R&D cen‐ tre dedicated to the circular economy.

The project will be rolled‐out be‐ tween 2022 and 2024 and will cover a built‐up area of 5,000 m2 when com‐ pleted.

The Re‐Trofit division will start op‐ erations at the end of 2022, with the capacity to refurbish more than 10,000 vehicles and repair up to 1,000 batteries per year by 2025.

This is part of the ongoing industrial

plan covering 2021 to 2024 for the Group’s Spanish plants, and includes the allocation of five new vehicles and a new family of engines for the Castil‐ la y Leon plants. The plant in Sevilla will also handle the manufacture of two new models of electrified gear‐ boxes for the Group’s hybrid vehicles.

The commitment to sustainability of its vehicles and accessories by the French Group guarantees continued long‐term employment for workers in its Spanish factories and is also in keeping with the Spanish Govern‐ ment programme of increasingly Green industry.

Charity jobs AS controversy continues over UK MPs second jobs, charity website Civil Society has undertaken a review of those in Parliament who are connected to one or more charities.

They accept that there is no requirement to actually de‐ clare their connection on the register of interests, but as‐ sume that the majority will wish to do so.

According to the review, 130 out of 650 MPs have de‐ clared a current, or recent, for‐ mal role with a voluntary or‐ ganisation which compares to findings from the BBC that around 200 have second jobs.

The larger parties have the greatest number of charitable MPs standing at around 18 per cent and this ignores asso‐ ciation with political organisa‐ tions.

Expansion THE sports equipment distri‐ bution company Decathlon has opened a new continental warehouse in Barcelona which cost €53.4 million to build in just 14 months de‐ spite the pandemic.

This centre has been devel‐ oped using latest Building In‐ formation modelling (BIM) technology, following the strict criteria of energy effi‐ ciency, sustainability and healthy working conditions.

The elements used include PV solar panels for self‐con‐ sumption, an integrated building management system to control the artificial lighting through adjustable low‐con‐ sumption LEDs with presence sensors, and construction ma‐ terials respectful of the car‐ bon footprint.

Already 51 new employees have been added to the pay‐ roll with a further 20 due to be recruited shortly.

Pride of place however goes to the Monarch Theatre which can seat just 20 people and offers a one‐of‐a‐kind gastronomic show, with carefully crafted staging and immersive courses that play with the senses.

Financial help for Spanish companies

AGREEMENT REACHED: Spanish family-owned Banca March.

FINANCIAL help is to be giv‐ en to Spanish companies af‐ fected by Covid‐19 with €300 million available through Banca March with the support of the European Investment Fund (FEI).

There is a €210 million guarantee from the FEI and with its own funds involved Banca March will be able to channel up to €300 million in loans to SMEs and mid‐ caps, much of it to the Balearic Islands.

The agreement is backed by the Pan‐European Guar‐ antee Fund (EGF), which is part of the package of mea‐ sures worth €540 billion ap‐ proved by the European Union to alleviate the eco‐ nomic effects of the pan‐ demic.

It is estimated that the signed agreement will facili‐ tate access to financing un‐ der advantageous condi‐ tions for more than 350 SMEs affected by the pan‐ demic, which will also help to safeguard employment

levels and the EIF will guar‐ antee up to 70 per cent of the new loan portfolio.

European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Ri‐ cardo Mourinho Félix stated: “As early as December 2020, Banca March was the first bank to sign an agreement with the EIB Group within the framework of the Pan‐ European Guarantee Fund.

“This is one more exam‐ ple of the EIB Group’s com‐ mitment to supporting Spanish financial institutions in the creation of new credit lines for small companies in the context of the recovery from the Covid‐19 pandem‐ ic.

“By collaborating with Banca March, we can reach numerous companies affect‐ ed by the pandemic in the Balearic Islands and throughout Spain, providing liquidity to support their in‐ vestment needs for growth in the medium and long term.”

LEAPY LEE SAYS IT OTHERS THINK IT WITH all the predictability of the sun sinking in the West, the Christmas deluge of diversity rammed down viewer’s throats by the UK’s left‐wing media has this year reached epic proportions.

Christmas screens are now awash with so much diverse hogwash, the white indigenous population must be more convinced than ever they are living on some parallel planet. Just this week the John Lewis advert, which depicts an all‐black family, provoked a flurry of offended ‘woke toxicity’ accusations from established British sources.

Other commercials, which depict typical British family gatherings on Christmas Day, now contain so many diverse nationalities and cosmopolitan children that the family ‘tree’ is more likely an overgrown hedgerow.

In short, it is all intelligence insulting propaganda.

Racially motivated hate crimes in the UK have increased 12 per cent this year alone.

So much for promoting diversity and racial harmony! These media organisations are not stupid, they have people monitoring social sites; they are perfectly aware that their disproportionate use of black and ethnic actors is raising concerns among

thousands of the white indigenous population. Subsequently, this agenda, coupled with their unwavering support of the BLM Marxist movement and highly controversial ‘knee’ is widening the gap between the white and ethnic communities even more.

The British left‐wing media and particularly the BBC are perfectly aware that by stirring up as much disharmony as they can before the next general election, they may just stand the chance of a beleaguered public opting for a change to a Labour government. It worked in America!

Their negative reporting and heavily prejudiced coverage of everything the British government has achieved over the past couple of extremely difficult years, has been nothing short of disgraceful. Every opportunity is taken to undermine all their efforts. They have pounced gleefully on the mistakes and contemptuously brushed aside their successes.

It must be remembered high numbers of employees in the British media, particularly the BBC and C4 are recruited from the same schools of thought. Many of them are ex‐ Student Union members from the colleges

and universities. The same left‐wing organisations that are currently removing historic links to the British Empire by taking down patriotic statues and renaming buildings and lecture theatres at their places of learning. It is also common knowledge that the vetting for BBC staff is very stringent indeed. If you’re not of the same mind set or never read the Guardian, you are lucky to get the job. Don’t take my word for all of this public dissent. A recent poll revealed that 42 per cent of the populace considered the BBC biased and 21 per cent ‘didn’t know’. Not the best of results for an impartial company, supported by taxpayer’s money.

I couldn’t help a giggle at reports Joe Biden passed a long unmistakable expulsion of wind in front of Camilla last week. Didn’t surprise me. He’s been doing that from the other end since he came to power!

Streaming Now: Finch

FINCH was released on Apple TV on November 5 and stars Tom Hanks, Caleb Landry Jones, and a dog on a heartfelt road trip ‐ what more could you want?

Directed by Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones), the film follows a man and a scavenging robot (that resembles Wall‐E) on a road trip to the Golden Gate Bridge in a post‐apocalyptic future.

Finch, played by Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump) is struggling to survive both physically and mentally in a world that is slowly killing him. He invents an AI‐based robot, Jeff, played by Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out) to help him to carry out tasks and ultimately take care of his beloved dog Goodyear when he dies.

I was sure this film was going to be a tear‐jerker, and I was right. It’s a heart‐warming tale of loss

Tom Hanks’ new film. and companionship, with Finch teaching Jeff about life and trust, as age and the effects of radiation slowly catch up with him.

This film is basically a two‐man movie, and the acting is incredible as Jeff begins to learn about trust, life and feelings from the man who created him and who he will ultimately replace. It is a father‐son metaphor set in a hostile and cruel environment, sweetened by humour and an upbeat soundtrack.

The movie doesn’t put you on the edge of your seat, but the two hours flies by as the relationships between Finch, Jeff and Goodyear the dog grow.

CLAIRE GORDON FINDING BALANCE IN AN UNEVEN WORLD THIS week I received a surprise parcel in a hand-written envelope through the post. This in itself is a rare enough occurrence these days as to cause a little rush of happiness when it arrived. But when I opened it, I was filled with even more joy. It contained honey candy, olive oil soap from a Greek island, and a red string bracelet with an engraved gold coin attached. There was also a thank you note from a stranger.

A month ago, I had answered a message for help from a friend in Greece.

Someone they knew needed assistance with translating some documents and embellishing them with some English words they didn’t know. I had some time on my hands and thought it would be a nice thing to do, so I said I would help. It took up a few hours of my time, we completed the work, and I thought no more of it. The woman asked for my address to send a thank you card, I gave it but said it wasn’t necessary as I was happy to help.

Kindness

Fast forward to this week, I receive my wonderful parcel and it really got me thinking. It was World Kindness Day on November 13 and its purpose is to reinforce that compassion links us all together and that being kind has immense power in this not-so-kind world. An act of kindness can fill our hearts with joy and yet in our busy schedules, it is so easy to forget to take some time out to make a kind gesture for a friend, family member, loved one or even a stranger.

I know a lot of people have a twisted view because the world hasn’t been so kind to them. They are busy, no one would do it for them, they won’t get anything back, so why should they bother?

That’s understandable but practising kindness itself can be the reward. I do think kindness is always in some way a transaction because even if you receive nothing in return, the sheer act of doing something nice makes you feel better.

It can make you feel like you are being

the best version of yourself and honestly when you put that out into the world, you will soon start to see changes.

These changes may not be in the actions of others particularly, as some people do not know how to respond well to kindness. But the changes can be in the way you view the world. You will be able to see that someone tearing down celebrities, or activists or just people going about their lives is not kind and it is not conducive to making that person’s life better, only someone else’s life worse.

These actions add to a world that seems harsh and uncaring enough already, so I think I will look at my little red bracelet today and choose to be kind instead.

The stay‐all‐day vibe is completed with weekly live music, which Sandra says has added to inviting yet dynamic feel.

And she explained that she used the same level of detail when it came to choosing the

food, ensuring only the highest quality ingredients are used in every dish to of‐ fer clients a world‐class dining experi‐ ence.

The businesswoman told the EWN: “I wanted to make sure that we are always going for the best quality of ingredients and my passion is so high that if something isn’t absolutely perfect I won’t serve it.”

Sandra said she has also worked to create an international menu that is mouthwater‐ ingly inviting yet still healthy, with Purple Rain Lounge already famous for its succulent steak tartare, solomillo and udon noodles.

And to complete that relaxed feel where clients can while away the hours with friends, the restaurant offers a lunch menu, Dutch and Turkish platters from 5pm to 7pm, din‐ ner menu, and a cocktail bar.

Now, following the huge success of Purple Rain Lounge since its opening, Sandra told the EWN she will be opening a second restaurant in Altea in December.

Views of a Grumpy Old Man WHY is it when you are having a conversation with someone - usually the hairdresser they always ask, “Are you going on holiday?” and you say, “yes”. Then they ask, “Are you going anywhere nice?” I always want to answer, “no not really but I got such a good deal on a two bed apartment in Afghanistan (insert your own war zone here) I had to take it, how could I resist?” I have the same feeling when sales people or waiters ask how I am. I’m over 70 years old; you really don’t want to know how I am. But as you asked me I will try and keep it short and just fill you in on the main details, pull up a chair, it should only take 20 minutes or so!

This affects about two million people. Sorry this just isn’t right in so many ways. I don’t give a monkey’s whether people are vaccinated or not, these are ridiculously mad measures to make. That along with the chance that 60,000 health workers in the UK are about to lose their jobs. This type of segregation is not going to finish well.

WE’RE living in an age of endless TV re‐ boots with news that there are currently plans for a new series of 40 year‐old ‘Berg‐ erac’, based again on Jersey.

But reboots are invariably disappointing because the original was part of its time that can’t be recreated second time round. Every‐ one’s moved on and the world’s a complete‐ ly different place today. Alternatively, they weren’t brilliant shows even back then.

In theory, I’ve nothing against remaking movies or TV shows. It’s not unlike a fresh restaging of a Shakespeare play ‐ if some‐ thing new and different is added to the pro‐ duction. In practice, though, the major prob‐ lem with reviving 80s TV is that our tastes have fundamentally altered as have our TV viewing habits.

It’s never too late to change

ROBERT SHALLIS I WAS inspired to write this month’s article after talking to an old friend who has recently made some brave and incredible changes to their life, resulting in becoming a better, more fulfilled and successful version of themself.

J F Kennedy once said “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”

Many of us focus too much on the past which tends to mould our present day as opposed to actually really living in the present moment and appreciating a brand‐new day, a fresh start, a new page, a new story which you can compose yourself.

By allowing past influences, defeats and traumas to hold us back will only keep us there and always be an excuse to justify why we haven’t achieved what we really want to in life.

So, how do we change for the better, how do we become who we really want to be? The way to change is to first ‘welcome’ the future and

not be fearful of it. Remember that you are the author of ‘your’ book of life. You can write a new story or you can continue living in your old story book that has become all too familiar and being uncomfortably comfortable. You can fill your day with new challenges, a new way of being or you can let it be filled very quickly with unwanted challenges and problems.

It’s never too late to change and become the person you dream about being. Success is anything you decide it to be as long as it is what you want, especially if it’s for the greater good of yourself and others. If you can be proud of your achievements and how you’re living your life, then that is the measure of success.

Many people do not actually find their true success or calling in life until after the age of 40 or 50, for some even 60 and beyond, so it’s never too late.

It is all too easy to say ‘I’m too old to change, I’m too set in my ways.’

However, the reality is actually the opposite. It’s only what we tell ourselves on a regular basis that causes us to believe such untrue statements. Once we break that habitual way of thinking and replace it with

more empowering statements such as ‘I am capable of doing amazing things, I’m ready to succeed.’ The quicker things will start to change and so will you.

Being aware of your thoughts and dismissing the seeds of doubt before they take hold is important. The weeds that grow in the garden

of your mind that have been holding you back will start to dissipate and be replaced with new life full of colour, beauty and clarity once you start thinking differently.

Decide what it is in life you really want, write down what you’ve always dreamed of doing or being, however small it may be. Writing it down is a great step to helping you achieve your goals and dreams.

Everything is possible and you are more than capable of becoming a better version of yourself. You have a choice, to accept your life as it is or change it for the better.

Have a clear intention, a full expectation as to what you really want, expect the best and believe you’ll get it.

It’s never too late to change!

DEAR reader, Forgive this late missive. La Palma’s volcano and frequent earth tremors and volcanic ash here at home on neigh‐ bouring La Gomera have com‐ plicated life.

This is all minimal, com‐ pared to the life‐changing hor‐ ror the poor Palmeros have been experiencing 24/7, day and night, since the volcano blew on September 19.

I last wrote from La Palma, covering a three‐day‐old event. Radio reports I did then make me cringe at their breezy tone. That there’d be an eruption was predicted, evacuation and general civil protection protocols had been implemented. The volcano was impressive. There were high anxiety levels, but a feel‐

ing of preparedness prevailed.

Homes and farmland had al‐ ready been lost to two exist‐ ing lava flows. It was heart‐ breaking to witness families losing everything, but the forecast of a relatively meagre 11,000 cubic metres of mag‐ ma waiting to explode over the area, already heading for the sea in two lava flows, of‐ fered comforting parameters to the rest of the threatened villages, as did the supposed ‘10 days to a month’ average Canarian volcano lifespan.

The reality is other. 50 hellish days and nights later, it shows no sign of stopping, with 80 million cubic metres of lava spewed out to date.

Several slow‐downs in lava emission were the volcano ap‐ parently composing itself to emit more sulphur dioxide and lava than ever, often through new vents with faster flowing lava.

How must it feel to live with the stress of probably losing

your home, having had 15 minutes to save possessions, then watching as a 15m high lava flow moves towards it, just missing as it veers off to one side or, unaccountably, stops?

Lava covers the village school, streets, houses, the places you played as a child, where your children play.

You’ve watched the church tower and everything else in its path crumble like match‐ wood as it’s buried by lava, but miraculously your house and a few others are saved.

You’re allowed back to save more possessions. To the dreadful noise of the volcano, you stand there pole‐axed by the devastation, unable to be‐ lieve you didn’t lose every‐ thing too, helpless with relief.

You go back to where you're sheltering with family, (only 400 of nearly 7,000 evacuees are in official shelters) stash your posssessions as best you can and perhaps for a week

try to come to terms with it all, with your good luck, with your neighbours’ bad luck, with the situation. Or maybe two days, or two weeks.

Then a new mouth blows, or the volcanic cone collapses.

Either way, massive quantities of lava spew out and stream down.

At first, new flows tended to follow previous flows, with minimal new destruction, but as new mouths blew lava streamed out in an extended hand shape, fingers fanned. Is‐ landers whose homes escaped suffered the unbearable stress of watching them threatened various times, to be eventual‐ ly obliterated by lava. Or not.

This nightmare’s been suf‐ fered by thousands. Most say it’s almost a relief when it fi‐ nally happens, when you know you’ve lost everything, that it would have been less stressful had it happened sooner.

The stress of losing every‐

thing, at the beginning or lat‐ er, or still having a home and hope, is exacerbated by the dreadful, ever present roaring of the volcano, poor air quali‐ ty, high volcanic ash fallout which kills gardens and crops and requires daily removal to avoid roof collapse, and total uncertainty about the future.

These are strong people, ac‐ customed to their volcanic en‐ vironment, but so many days of high‐level stress and danger are unbearable, especially giv‐ en the uncomfortable evi‐ dence that seismic move‐ ments are far from decreasing.

I’m no believer, but please pray for them.

#TheWomanBeyond THIS week I ask: Have you ever heard of ‘activation energy’?

Me neither, until a few years ago. It’s another formula, this time not from maths, but chemistry and physics. One thing I realise time and time again is that there are life lessons to be learned from everywhere, I have already shared with you that the model that I developed for personal and business transformation and success (ASPIRE© ‐ Six Secrets to Success) is based on my 30 years of re‐ search, taking in Antient Wisdom, Posi‐ tive Psychology, Neuroscience and shar‐ ing practical tools from everywhere and when I say that I really, really mean it, there’s even Harry Potter Wisdom (I’ll share that with you another time ‐ LOVE it).

So, this is a tool from old school sci‐ ence.

What is it then, I hear you asking!!

Activation Energy That is the minimum amount of energy that must be provided for compounds to result in a chemical reaction.

A great, but what might seem a mun‐ dane example is WATER: Water only boils once it reaches its activation energy point of 100 degrees Celsius (212°F). Twenty degrees won’t make it happen, 85 de‐ grees won’t do it and not even 99 de‐ grees will do it. Sure, you’ll get lots of sim‐ mering but certainly no boiling.

If you want boiling, you’ve got to get the heat all the way up to 100°. Then the magic will happen, you’ll undergo the ‘specified reaction’ and boil.

Same rules apply with creating fire, 232 degrees Celsius (451°F) is where the mag‐ ic happens here. So if you’re busy rubbing two sticks together and get to 200 de‐

grees? Nothing. 225°? Nothing. 230°?

Nope. Nothing.

BUT at 232°?

BAM! Let there be light.

BOOM! You’ve got Activation Energy.

And your point is Toni? All of this is to arrive at this question: Are you simmering or are you boiling?

Because if you’re not willing to flip the switch and go ALL IN, you won’t arrive at the necessary Activation Energy required to undergo the specified reaction of step‐ ping into your truly Goddess, heroic po‐ tential.

BTW. As I said this is not a new idea.

(No great wisdom ever is.) Socrates used to tell his students they needed to ap‐ proach life with the same intensity of a man whose face is underwater struggles for oxygen.

Eastern mystics have used the same ba‐ sic metaphor ‐ telling us that we need to approach this whole process of enlight‐ ened living like a wo(man) whose hair is on fire approaches a pond. YIKES!

Let’s do that.

RESIDENT OR NOT? Dear Sirs I refer to your article last week entitled ‘Passport stamp clarity’ in which you refer to UK nationals who can demonstrate that they were resident in Spain before January 1 should not have their passport stamped or be subject to routine questions. A couple of weeks ago I decided to visit Gibraltar and, in an attempt to avoid any complications at the border, took with me my green residence certificate and my vaccination certificates as well as my new British passport.

Having given these documents to the National Police at the border two policemen then spent five minutes on their computer discussing my residence certificate and informed me that it had expired. They explained to me in great detail that the UK had left the EU at the end of last year and therefore my residence certificate had expired and I had to apply for a TIE which replaced the green residence certificate. I knew fine well that the certificate was still valid and that applying for a TIE was optional since even the British Ambassador had made reference to this on several occasions. Despite having been a resident of Spain for 40 years I was beginning to wonder whether it was just my certificate that had expired or had the government had a change of mind and cancelled all green residence certificates.

Unsure as to whether it was still valid or not, over the next few days I put together the necessary papers in order to apply for the TIE at the National Police in Estepona. Once my papers had been accepted I explained my situation to the person handling my application. Following several minutes of discussions I was informed that apparently a new system had been installed for dealing with the green residence certificates, but unfortunately a certain number of them had been rejected by the new system. As a result of this many more people may find themselves in the same predicament as myself when passing through Spanish border controls.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? THE evidence of the last few weeks suggests that there is another surge in the pandemic and the decision by Austria and the Netherlands to enforce some form of lockdown is worrying to say the least.

It seems that whilst infections in Spain are beginning to climb, the rate is not yet more than disturbing and it seems highly unlikely that major new restrictions will be introduced in the foreseeable future.

A right to reply Dear Editor, I believe that Mr Oram is attempting to overcomplicate a straightforward observation of mine; for example, it is minority groups that wish to remove from British history anyone associated with actions which, in the context of the standards of the past were considered to be acceptable but which, rightly so, are considered not to be so today. Cecil Rhodes, Edward Colston, Horatio Nelson, Winston Churchill, to name but a few, each of whom made an enormous contribution to so many aspects of life in the UK and around the world, although, in the cases of Nelson and Churchill, we owe them our very survival!

Yet it is minorities who would denigrate their reputations and, if they ever had their way, would see them ‘cancelled’ and cease to feature in our past! We are all a product of our history and have a responsibility to learn from errors of the past, not seek to erase them.

The minorities to whom I referred (elderly men, Tories, or MPs who went to Eton excluded), have a democratic right to express their views and to protest, legally; what they do not have is the right to bring business to a halt or to prevent the general public from going about their day-to-day lives, and this, thankfully, has been endorsed by the courts in recent weeks.

As for my remark about ‘not being racist’, it was a personal one and contained no implications for any other person or group; it was merely stated in case anybody should misconstrue my criticism of ‘minorities’ or their composition - one has to be so careful nowadays!

The more who can be encouraged to volunteer for vaccination, the better it must be for the majority of people here in Spain and of course in the UK where so many of our readers have relatives.

The concept of a booster third shot also seems sensible but at the end of the day, the number of people who are killed by Covid19 whilst horrifying for those involved, is no longer a huge percentage of those catching coronavirus.

It would simply be unconscionable for Spain or the UK to cripple their economies yet again by introducing new lockdown laws, even assuming in the Spanish case that they would be legal, so the difficulty is knowing what actions could help.

If you make restaurants close at 8pm, why would that be likely to reduce the number of people infected, as customers can catch the virus as easily at 7pm as 11pm?

All we can really do is wait and see how infection progresses and try to be as careful as possible.

MASKS: Should there be stricter regulations put into place?

Clay may pay SCIENTISTS have found that in‐ gesting a certain type of clay, may limit the amount of fat absorbed by the body.

Researchers from the Uni‐ versity of South Australia found that rats fed a high fat diet gained the least weight if they also ate an unnamed clay sup‐ plement, compared to a place‐ bo or the current most popular fat‐binding drug, orlistat.

PHD student Tahnee Dening, discovered the unexpected benefit by coincidence during another experiment. She found the clay was, ‘attracting fat droplets and literally soaking them up. Not only were the clay materials trapping the fats within their particle structure, but they were also preventing them from being absorbed by the body, ensuring fat simply passed through the digestive system’ The finding may offer promising progress in the hunt for a safe weight loss pill, with scientists suggesting clay sup‐ plements could soon move to the human testing phase.

If the timetable sched‐ uled the 11.42 train from Basel to arrive in Zurich at 12.37, even in the unlikely event of a dead buffalo on the line, it would somehow arrive in Zurich at 12.37.

In theory, Spain is also a country of impressive preci‐ sion. The last bus is sched‐ uled to leave Nerja at 20.20 and arrive in Malaga at 21.43 (not 21.40; not 21.45). That is the theory. The problem is that it is often late leaving Nerja and never arrives bang on schedule in Malaga. The single fare is €4.51 (not €4.50). Every time somebody buys a ticket, either at a

Recently I made an ap‐ pointment at the clinic for a blood test. The docket showed it to be for the fol‐ lowing Friday morning at 09.07. So much for the preci‐ sion. I arrived at 9 o’clock and had to wait until I was fi‐ nally seen at 09.48.

For taxation departments and accountants, the preci‐ sion must be a nightmare.

For example, grandchildren are granted an allowance of €15,956.87 before they need to pay inheritance tax. Why not €16,000? After deducting this allowance, the tax rate on the excess, ranging from €31,956 to €39,943 (not €32,000 to €40,000) is 11.05 per cent (not 11 per cent). Is there a reason for this?

There are numerous similar examples but the amount of revenue lost through tax eva‐ sion by non‐declarations runs into billions each year.

The budget for the refur‐ bishment of Fuengirola’s train station is €2,636,590 (not €2,630,000). And I saw a hoarding announcing an ex‐ tension to a road in Axarquia at a budget of exactly €147,303.43 (rather than

€150,000). In fact, such pro‐ jects are often completed at double the allocated budget ‐ or, of course, not at all.

I read recently of a case of animal cruelty where the perpetrator was sentenced to three months and one day (not just three months) with a fine of €307 (not €300) plus costs. Does a sentence of over three months carry some kind of stigma?

The question I am asking here is how much does this meaningless attention to de‐ tail cost the administrators?

How many extra hours must be worked by accountants, tax officials, assessors, the police, the judiciary and the bus companies in handling such precise figures? Would not rounded numbers or five‐minute intervals be less confusing and just as effec‐ tive?

GANDIA Council has opened an exhibition marking the 25th anniversary of its Trib‐ ute to the Word.

The exhibition will cover Gandia’s 25 years of tributes to different writers.

Remembrance Day

ON Thursday, November 11, Remembrance Day coincided with the Albir Anglicans’ week‐ day service at the Forum Mare Nostrum.

The organisation said: “This was a very special service. We were blessed with a ‘waterfall of Poppies’ which had been made for us by friends of the Church, Joan and Geoff ‐ thank you both.

“Our service was repeated on Sunday 14 and was again very meaningful. The service was led by Fr Paul. We have two retired readers, who are al‐ so veterans of the Armed Forces, one being Geoff Mitchell who laid the wreath on Sunday and also Geoff Duncan who was our preacher for the two special days. Fr Paul and Geoff Duncan then travelled to another church in our chaplain‐ cy, El Campello to lead their special service of Remem‐ brance.”

The charity said: “Nearly 1,000 people passed the doors of Sa‐ lones Carrasco in Javea to take in the wonderful array of gift ideas for Christmas, for all generations.

“An added delight was the visit of Father Christmas for the children, who all went away happy with a small gift to achieve Giving Santa their Christmas Wish Letter.

MOFTAG winter fayre CHARITY MOFTAG in Calpe has held its winter fayre, raising €2,850 for local organisations.

The charity said: “Despite unfavourable weather predictions for weeks beforehand, the sun shone down at Pub Delfin on Saturday November 13 where MOFTAG (Mighty Oaks from Tiny Acorns Grow) held their winter fayre.

“Once again all the hard working efforts of the MOFTAG ladies paid off with a new record amount of €2,850 being raised for local chari‐ ties.” Anita Becker, a MOFTAG Committee member, said: “It is amazing what can be achieved by small groups of ladies who dedi‐ cate themselves to sewing, baking, making

cards, cooking marmalades and chutneys and selling raffle tickets. This also brings our club members together socially which is what MOF‐ TAG is all about. We meet every Wednesday for some sort of social event and we are ex‐ tremely lucky to have such dedicated and loyal members.”

The funds raised go towards the Red Cross, Maite Boronat and Caritas supporting in their various projects throughout the year. The char‐ ity thanked everyone who came along to the fayre and supported it.

Photography workshop PHOTOGRAPHER Pilar Pe‐ queño will be offering a free photography workshop in Alicante on November 20 and 21.

Taking place at the Ali‐ cante Museum of Contem‐ porary Art, the photogra‐ pher will show how she creates her work and espe‐ cially how she works with natural light, sharing her ex‐ periences from a personal and direct perspective.

Pilar will also teach how to choose the plants, flow‐ ers or fruits and other ele‐ ments of the composition and use them in the space, as well as how to capture the image.

Afterwards, participants will create their own images, choosing the elements, working with the light and taking the shot.

Pilar said: “I intend this workshop to be a space

for reflection and work on the construction of still lifes.”

She added: “I will show how I create my images, from montage to the cre‐ ation of the lighting scene.”

The workshop will take place on Saturday, Novem‐ ber 20 from 10am to 2pm and 3pm to 7pm, and on Sunday November 21 from 10am to 2pm.

Seizures are not always epilepsy TOO many times when dogs and cats have epileptic seizures they are given anticonvulsant medications without having completed a diagnostic plan. They are treated as if they have primary epilepsy, but there are a number of reasons that your dog may have a seizure ranging from metabolic diseases to epilepsy.

Your veterinarian will first perform a physical exam, as well as bloodwork to assess your dog’s cell counts and internal or‐ gan function. If this bloodwork does not show any abnormali‐ ties that would explain the neurologic signs, your veterinarian will perform infectious disease testing to rule out infections that could be responsible for your dog’s neurologic signs.

If these initial tests are normal and no obvious causes for the neurologic abnormalities are found, your veterinarian will likely refer you to a veterinary neurologist. The neurologist will likely perform two additional tests: MRI and CSF analysis.

Early detection of these pathologies other than primary epilepsy is essential for the success of its treatment.

The only way to rule out intracra‐ nial causes is by performing the Magnetic Resonance test.

Skoda Enyaq - a winning EV choice ROAD TEST

by Mark Slack WITH so many marques owned by single corporate entities it’s perhaps no sur‐ prise that economics dictate

a certain commonality. So Skoda’s Enyaq shares its un‐ derpinnings with the VW ID range and in particular the ID.4. However, there are some subtle but noticeable differences that set the two apart on the style front.

The all‐electric Enyaq is big, very big, so one of the first proper all‐electric, all‐con‐ suming family vehicles. With even the entry level model claiming up to 256 miles of range, and from my week it’s pretty close to achievable given the right circumstances, this is one of the most useable EVs I have tried.

It’s also one of the more af‐ fordable, albeit electric cars are still expensive compared to petrol powered equiva‐ lents.

With five trim levels, two power options and all‐wheel‐ drive on offer, there’s no shortage of choice. Prices start from €37,366/£32,010 (including €2,918/£2,500 UK government EV grant), other battery options and trims can push the final price well north of €46k/£40k. The lead‐in model is the only one that qualifies for the UK EV grant.

cent array of standard kit from Bluetooth, navigation and Wi‐Fi hotspot through to keyless stop/start, cruise con‐ trol and light and rain sensors.

The Enyaq is an imposing

vehicle that lacks some of the styling oddities that have pre‐ viously beset EV designs. It al‐ so has an impressive interior, with my test car having swathes of cloth across the

fascia rather than the usual plastic. Quite how durable this would prove I don’t know but it makes an impact. One of the first things you no‐ tice about the interi‐ or is the space, the sheer amount of it, from legroom to height to load area.

On the road the Enyaq is typically EV quiet with wind and tyre noise very well insulated. It’s comfort‐ able too and on a 200‐mile journey we emerged with range to spare (no charging required), quite comfortable and relaxed. It also rides well, soaking up the worst excess‐ es of our potholed tarmac, and the handling is decent rather than exceptional. To be fair it’s not the type of car you would buy for excite‐ ment.

The Enyaq is genuinely use‐ able in range terms alone, as a whole package it’s a win‐ ning EV choice. It’s only let down only by the poor EV in‐ frastructure in the UK.

Third title for Fontes

ALVARO FONTES won his third Spanish champi‐ onship title last weekend at Circuit de Barcelona‐ Catalunya. The Malaga‐ born driver, who already won the Spanish GT Championship in 2012, and the TCR category in the Spanish Endurance Championship in 2015, continues to build his leg‐ endary status on Spanish circuits.

Together with his co‐pi‐ lot, Dutchman Mirco van Nostrum, Fontes won the TCR category of the Span‐ ish Endurance Champi‐ onship on Sunday, November 14, which con‐ cluded its 2021 season in Montmelo in Catalonia.

Fontes and van Nos‐ trum, were a perfect match at the wheel of the Audi RS3 LMS of SPV Rac‐ ing in the striking sponsor‐ ship colours of the Purple Rain Lounge in Altea, rounding off their superb racing season with a title.

On the first lap, the Malaga‐born rider was al‐ ready up into second place, but on the fourth lap, he overtook Amalia Vinyes, and gained the lead.

From then on, Fontes totally controlled the race, staying ahead of Santi Concepcion Jr, who even went off the track in his effort to chase down both the Andalucian, and the Andorran driver, Vinyes.

“I am very happy to have won my third title in a Spanish championship,

and of course to have con‐ tributed to my teammate Mirco, and SPV Racing to become champions.

“I think I did a good first relay, which was my job as the most experienced driver. Mirco rounded off the task with a second place that tastes like a vic‐ tory because of the time handicap we had,” ex‐

plained Fontes.

He added, “I want to dedicate this title to our sponsors, especially Pur‐ ple Rain Lounge, and friends, for their support.

The Audi was never the best car, but we were very consistent, and the work of the SPV Racing engi‐ neers and mechanics was the key to our success”
