NERJA OFFICERS: Acted in an anti-drug operation.
Local Police congratulated APAA NERJA: Looking for people to both foster puppies and to house older dogs.
ANIMAL charity APAA Nerja has appealed for fosterers to help house the large numbers of abandoned dogs it has received this year. The charity said it is look‐ ing for fosterers both to take in the puppies it re‐ ceives as well as to house older dogs who are current‐ ly staying in an animal resi‐ dence paid for by the APAA Nerja. Rebekah Kealy, who works with the charity, said: “Our kennels are bursting at the seams with dogs at the mo‐ ment. We really need help from the local community. “We have Zulu and Lucky, two older dogs who have
recently been given up by their owner.” Ms Keely said the dogs had, “spent their whole lives living in a warm comfy home and are now stuck in a pen.” She added that the chari‐ ty would cover the costs of vet care and food, saying: “APAA will provide every‐ thing necessary to foster.” Sue Kiff, Treasurer of APAA Nerja, told the Euro Weekly News that the chari‐ ty has been receiving large amounts of animals. She said: “We have had 10 dogs come in in one day, people keep bringing them in.” She added: “There have been some awkward dogs this year, including an am‐
putee, which have been very difficult to find foster‐ ers for.” Ms Kiff said that the char‐ ity would now like anyone who can give their time as a fosterer to get in contact. She said: “We are grateful for any time people can give us, whether it’s one week, two weeks, one month.” The APAA Nerja is a regis‐ tered animal rescue charity whose goal is to rescue and rehome abandoned dogs and cats in the Nerja area. To foster or donate, or to get in touch with the chari‐ ty, contact 643 406 591, or visit the APAA’s charity shop on Calle el Chaparil 7, Nerja.
FOUR officers of the Local Police were congratulated for their participation in an anti‐drug operation carried out by the Guardia Civil. The operation took place on March 12 and resulted in the arrest of several people and the seizure of the narcotic ma‐ terial. Security councillor, Francisco Arce, said the “recognition is motivated by the letter presented by the Lieutenant Com‐ mander of the Nerja Guardia Civil post to the council, in which he relates how the four officers collaborated in the operation stopping a vehicle, generating serious risk for the officers, and that fortunately ended with the arrest of its oc‐ cupants.” The Guardia Civil then intercepted the van that was trans‐ porting the drugs. “This government group is seen as fit to present the pro‐ posal approved unanimously by the Plenary of the Corpora‐ tion, congratulating the four officers for their professional‐ ism and diligence demonstrated in the service performed that day,” concluded the councillor. He has also taken the opportunity to congratulate all the officers that make up the staff of the Nerja Local Police for the daily work they do for the safety of Nerja and Mareños.
