President Sánchez met with King Felipe VI in Palma.
SPANISH President Pedro Sánchez, was received by King Felipe VI at the Marivent Palace, in Mallorca, where they have maintained the traditional summer office on Tuesday August 3. His duty was to update the King on de‐ velopments since their last summer meeting in Palma. “A year ago, we had a Spain resisting the pandemic and today we are facing a completely different scenario,” Sánchez observed. He highlighted how, in his last visit to Palma, the world was far from having a vaccine against the virus responsible for the pandemic, while today, Spain has more than 57 per cent of the popula‐ tion fully inoculated and is a leader in the vaccination process. In addition, thanks to an agreement approved on August 3 by the Council of
Ministers to incorporate 3.4 million ad‐ ditional doses in August, Spain is ap‐ proaching the goal of 70 per cent of the public being vaccinated fully before the end of this month. Sánchez expressed his satisfaction with the data on affiliation and unem‐ ployment released on the same day, in which unemployment fell by 197,841 people in July, surpassing the record falls of the previous two months, and affiliation has grown by 133,000 work‐ ers in July and is on the verge of reach‐ ing pre‐pandemic levels. Finally, he pointed out how the Euro‐ pean funds agreement has radically changed the scenario in the last year, thanks to which Spain will receive €19.5 billion in 2021, of which 55 per cent will be managed by the Autonomous Com‐ munities.
“The government of Spain has a firm commitment and it is with the recov‐ ery, with not leaving anyone behind and with the fact that the whole of Spanish society is the protagonist of this recovery,” Sánchez concluded. Following this audience, the Presi‐ dent then met with the President of the Balearic Government, Francina Armen‐ gol in Palma to discuss matters that will affect the Balearics. Armengol, thanked the President for “the opportunity to work together for the interests of our citizens” and al‐ so stressed that during the meeting the “hopeful and necessary strategy” for the Balearics was discussed, espe‐ cially in relation to European funds and the need for them to serve to modernise the economic model of the Islands.

New Covid measures
THE Balearic Government confirmed on August 2 that new measures are to be introduced in Balearics to combat the rise in infection. Visits to homes for the elderly are to be re‐ stricted to people who have been completely vaccinated, who show that they have had the disease in the previous six months or who have a negative PDIA (PCR 72 hours before) or an antigen test (48 hours before). Children under the age of 12 are exempted from this requirement, but extreme precau‐ tionary measures are recommended, in partic‐ ular the use of a mask, safety distance and ven‐ tilation. Residents will be allowed to leave with the prior signature of consent guaranteeing that, during their time away from the residence, resi‐ dents will only be with people who have been vaccinated or who meet the above require‐ ments. Workers who have not been vaccinated and who cannot prove that they have recovered from the disease in the last six months will have to undergo three weekly PDIAs, of which at least two must be PCR. Another measure approved affects summer camps, as participating monitors will have to undergo weekly tests before the start of the ac‐ tivity. All new measures will be in force from the time they are published in the BOIB until August 23, coinciding with the revision of the mobility limitation measure between 1am and 6am. All other restrictions previously introduced will also remain in force unless amended by the BOIB should evidence of a significant decline in infection rate be detected.
