PRESS CONFERENCE: Explaining the new restrictions. THE Balearic Government intro‐ duces fines of up to €5,000 for those taking part in Mallorca bot‐ tle parties. With a ban on meetings be‐ tween non‐cohabitants that came into force at 1am on Sunday July 25, an estimated thousand young people, many of them tourists, congregated in the Platja de Palma but they were soon dispersed by a joint force comprising National and Local Police officers. Just two days earlier, a press conference was held by the Minis‐ ter of the Presidency, Civil Service and Equality, Mercedes Garrido,
the Government Delegate for the Balearic Islands, Aina Calvo, the mayor of Palma, Jose Hila, and the president of the Federation of Local Entities of the Balearic Islands, An‐ toni Salas. Garrido stated that the Govern‐ ment will have “zero tolerance” against those who do not want to comply with the rules, warning that if someone is thinking of going to a bottle party, which is illegal, they should understand that they will have to face the consequences. Anyone who breaches the new rules would face a penalty of at least €1,000 but if they skip quaran‐
tine to attend, the fine will be at least €2,000 and if found to be posi‐ tive for Covid‐19, this will increase to a minimum of €5,000. “Whoever has a fine for Covid infractions will end up paying it” said Garrido and to date, 30,732 tickets have been issued which will generate fines of €7,135,642. “It’s time for caution, we already have almost 70 per cent of the population vaccinated with the first dose and more than 55 per cent with both, so we have to wait a lit‐ tle longer while vaccination contin‐ ues and reduces contagion” she added.

ANIMAL LOVERS ONE Good Samaritan has issued an appeal, for €80,000 to help protect abandoned animals. Nicole is in a spot of bother. Having signed a ‘secure’ five‐ year rental contract in 2019, with an option to renew, her land‐ lord recently announced the sale of the property and she has a matter of months to find a new home. The problem is, Nicole has a rather large family ‐ 52 at the last count ‐ and it’s going to take more than a scroll through Ide‐ alista to solve this one. Instead, it’s going to take a lot of money, to buy some land outright, so Nicole and her one‐ two‐ three‐ and four‐legged ‘babies’ never have to face this precarious situ‐ ation again. This is not a faceless charity, this is a special place for special animals right here on our doorstep. A place that with a secure financial future, can welcome many more in desperate need, for many, many more years. Eden Sanctuary is a registered charitable association and you can help by contacting Nicole on 629 535 466 or donat‐ ing here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/land‐for‐eden‐ sanctuary . Nicole and her ‘babies’ will be eternally grateful.
