No tarmac ENVIRONMENTALIST group Amigos de la Sierra de Benejuzar criticised Benejuzar Town Hall for asphalting a forest path that would now be used by motor vehicles, jeopardising pedestrians, wildlife and vegetation.
Try again ASAJA agricultural union claimed that reducing the cost of water from Torrevieja’s desalination plant, as recommended by the central government, would require installing a solar power plant covering 500 hectares.

SUMMER SEMINAR: Ximo Puig and Health chief Ana Barcelo visit Albocasser’s health centre. GENERALITAT president Ximo Puig predicted herd immunity for the region by October 9, Va‐ lencian Community Day. Speaking at the conclusion of the regional government’s Gov‐ ern‐Estiu 2021 summer seminar, held this year in Albocasser and Benassal (Castellon), he pledged that October 9 would be a turn‐ ing point. By that time the pandemic would be overcome “economi‐ cally, socially and emotionally,” Puig declared. The next two months will be the “final sprint” in the vaccina‐ tion programme which the Gen‐ eralitat began last year on De‐
cember 27, he added. More than three million Valen‐ cian Community residents have already been vaccinated, of whom more than two‐and‐a‐half million had received both anti‐ Covid jabs, Puig pointed out. The 20‐29 age group are re‐ ceiving their first vaccinations this week and meanwhile the Gener‐ alitat’s Health and Education de‐ partments are finalising plans to begin vaccinating the over‐12s. “We should be able to guaran‐ tee by October 9, the anniversary of our origins as a people, that more than 70 per cent of the over‐12s have received both dos‐ es,” Puig said.

Until then, the regional presi‐ dent called for “extreme caution” and compliance with the mea‐ sures that have been introduced to prevent the virus from spread‐ ing further during this latest wave. “Together we are succeed‐ ing in overcoming a great chal‐ lenge thanks to the efforts and sacrifices of all Valencian Com‐ munity residents,” Puig affirmed. “We can be proud of the work we have carried out together.” This was also the time to grasp a historic opportunity for recov‐ ery supported by European funds, which Puig promised would be managed “with agility and swiftness.”
TORREVIEJA Town Hall allocated a public parking area for mo‐ torhomes and caravans. Located in La Mata in Calle Celindo not far from the sea, the 2,300‐square metre site is situated between undeveloped land in La Manguilla and a green zone, the town hall announced. Further parking areas could be added in future in other parts of Torrevieja, municipal sources revealed. The initiative follows a 2019 vote by Torrevieja councillors banning the hundreds of motorhomes and caravans that former‐ ly parked in local coves. There will be regular checks on activities at the site, as mo‐ torhomes and campervans will only be allowed to park there, staying for a maximum of 48 hours in any one week, the town hall announced.
