The effects of the Aloe Vera for skincare pandemic on your skin THE coronavirus pandemic has changed our lives and its effects on our health are significant, not only psychologically, but also physically, including making skin look dull, old or puffy. This can be put down to the lack of sunshine or using masks, but also, more surprisingly, to the lack of social interaction which in turn reduces the production of oxytocin, known as the happiness hormone. This hormone, according to a study by www.nivea.es, travels to cells in the body, including skin cells, and improves its appearance. Oxytocin contributes to daily wellness by reducing stress, bringing down blood pressure, regenerating muscle, increasing affectivity and strengthening social ties. The recipients of oxytocin are in the skin and this means that hugs and physical contact with loved ones is directly related with a higher level of oxytocin in the blood. It can also reduce swelling and skin sensitivity. In Spain, due to the pandemic, human contact has fallen by 71 per cent and we are producing less oxytocin, which in turn has an effect on our health and wellness. Lack of oxytocin can cause skin ailments such as eczema and psoriasis, as cells are more vulnerable to inflammation. The pandemic has affected people

with sensitive skin and has also made skin look older because of the lack of oxytocin. Using masks has made acne worse for many people due to the constant friction which causes irritation and prevents the skin from breathing properly, with sweat and humidity from breathing accumulating and causing the problem. Both contributing factors, masks and lack of oxytocin, cause dead cells to build up and obstruct pores, making the skin duller and tired looking. Now is the time to find an ideal skincare routine and take care of your skin to get it looking at its best again.

ALOE VERA is one of the most famous plants used in the world of cosmetics, because it is a great ally for the skin and for health in general. It is a plant full of enzymes, amino acids and antioxidants that throughout history has been used for thousands of treatments. The properties of aloe vera have been known for centuries, in fact, it is believed that it was included in

The beneficial fats help to keep you full and calm your appetite. the beauty rituals of Egyptian queens such as Cleopatra or Nefertiti. In Ancient Egypt, it was called ‘the plant of immortality’ and other later cultures have continued to use it and given it their own names. For the Sumerians it was a ‘magical virtue,’ for the Templars ‘the elixir of Jerusalem’ and for the Arabs ‘the eternal fountain of youth.’ Even Christopher Columbus carried pots with aloe vera on his ships to heal the wounds of the crew. In 1970 a pharmacist named Bill Coats managed to stabilise the gel extracted from the leaf, added vitamin C, vitamin E and sorbitol, and began to market and popularise it. Spain has been producing aloe vera for years, first in the Canary Islands but little

by little it has spread elsewhere, such as Andalucia and Levante. Although there are 250 varieties of aloe vera, only two have medicinal properties: Aloe barbadensis miller and Aloe arborescensis. The main properties of aloe vera that make it popular in skincare products are: skin hydration, thanks to its 99 per cent water content; elasticity, helping to lessen wrinkles and expression lines; healing damaged tissue without leaving scars; antioxidant and can also be used to calm sunburn; anti-inflammatory, helps with skin ailments and insect bites and stings; antibacterial and antiseptic properties, make it good for acne; and finally, it is used as a corrector to do away with skin blemishes and stretch marks.

Travelling to Spain for eye surgery treatment ATARACT surgery is one of the most common procedures performed worldwide. Sooner or later, everyone is affected by cataracts and will need surgery. However, the waiting list for the operation can be anything from a few months to five years, especially in countries with a public healthcare service. Obviously, a long delay impacts on a person’s quality of life. They may feel socially isolated and unable to enjoy a range of activities to the full. This is especially true for older patients, because visual impairment can have a more drastic effect on their daily lives. What are cataract symptoms? A cataract causes the lens to become cloudy. The patient will have loss of vision leading to trouble with reading, driving and seeing in the dark, as well as a need to use brighter lights. Some people simply adjust to these symptoms and it is only after they have surgery that they realise what they have been missing due to visual impairment.

Virtual challenges THE coronavirus pandemic brought about new ways to do all sorts of things, and one was taking part in marathons and walking challenges. Virtual challenges made an entrance on the worldwide scene before the pandemic, but became increasingly popular during lockdown for many reasons, including the fact that they could be done on treadmills, exercise bikes or in private pools; they gave marathon fans somewhere to focus their energy when many events were cancelled; some of them can include postcards and photos of your virtual visits. There are many companies providing a variety of events for all ages, just Google ‘Virtual Challenges’ and find one that suits you.

SOL EYES: Enjoy a week’s holiday while having your eyesight fixed. Powerful CINNAMON is a spice used in many dishes and beverages, but it also has medicinal properties which have made it popular for thousands of years. Modern science has confirmed what people have known for centuries regarding the health benefits of cinnamon. • Cinnamon is made from the bark of trees and can easily be found nowadays. There are two main types: Ceylon (or true) cinnamon or Cassia cinnamon which is more common. It can be used in sticks or powder form. It contains cinnamaldehyde, thought to be responsible for most of its health benefits. • Full of antioxidants to protect the body from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. • It has anti-inflammatory properties, and can help the body fight infections and repair tissue damage. • Linked to reducing heart disease, brings down blood pressure and in people with diabetes, it has been shown to have beneficial effects on blood markers, reduces cholesterol levels and stabilises good cholesterol. • Can improve sensitivity to insulin, which is essential for transporting blood sugar from your bloodstream to your cells.

that cures the cataract for good, but it does not correct possible refractions. By contrast, with the Presbyopia surgery, the original lens is replaced by a multifocal lens that not only removes the cataract for good, but also corrects the vision, because a multifocal intraocular lens allows you to see close-up and distance

alike. The latter procedure is also referred to as the Age-Related Long sightedness operation. Why travel to the Sol Eyes clinic? We treat a significant number of visitors who travel to Spain for eye surgery. They come here because the procedure is less expensive than in their home country. Recovery is also fast, so they can enjoy a week’s holiday while having their eyesight fixed. Furthermore, Sol Eyes follows the Scandinavian attention to quality in every aspect of our service: from customer service to examinations, the operation itself and the after care in our state-ofthe-art premises, everything is done to the highest standard while still managing to keep prices lower than in northern European countries.

cinnamon • Lowers blood sugar levels and has a powerful anti-diabetic effect. • It can be beneficial in neurodegenerative diseases characterised by the progressive loss of the structure or function of brain cells. They include Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. • Could protect against cancer, by reducing the growth of cancer cells and as it appears to be toxic to cancer cells, causes cell death. • Helps to fight bacterial and fungal

infections and has also been proven to effectively treat respiratory tract infections, as well as inhibiting the growth of certain bacteria. It may also prevent tooth decay and reduce bad breath. • Cinnamon may help fight the HIV virus as it can help to boost the immune system. All in all, it is no surprise that so many people add cinnamon to their diets.

Healthy Snacking Options DIETING is hard, and being successful in your diet can depend a lot on your daily routine. If you’re sitting at a computer all day, especially working from home, it can be easy to start snacking between meals. Here are a few options to make this habit healthier: Nuts: very filling, they can also help to reduce the risk of heart disease and depression. Guacamole, hummus or cream cheese: they can be enjoyed with health crudités such as red pepper, carrot, celery, cucumber, etc. Greek yoghurt: a great source of calcium, add berries to make it tastier. Apples: high in fibre, they can be eaten on their own or with peanut butter. Cottage cheese: full of protein and filling, it’s great to eat with health flat breads or crackers. Dark chocolate: can help blood pressure and heart disease. Cherry tomatoes: full of vitamin C.

Get out of here! NOW that certain restrictions have been lifted and we can get outside for longer it’s important to take in the sunshine (in moderation) and fresh air. Getting outside has proven benefits for your health, both mental and physical. Going for walks can help you to keep fit, while the Vitamin D from sunlight will help to keep your skin, nervous system, bones and circulation in optimal condition, as well as being important for your body clock to remain regulated. Meanwhile, getting out in the open, going for a walk in the countryside, the mountains or by the sea can reduce stress levels, works as an anti-depressant and helps to regulate serotonin levels, which directly affect appetite and sleeping patterns.

Oxygen therapy MANY athletes now know the benefits of oxygen therapy for their health, as it can not only improve performance but is also used to help the body recover sooner from injuries. The proven benefits make it well worth thinking about. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a treatment used to speed up healing in which you enter a special chamber to breathe in pure oxygen in higher than average air pressure levels. The aim of it is to fill the blood with enough oxygen to repair tissues and restore normal function. It can be used in carbon monoxide poison-

Have a pint for health HAVING a beer is a bit of a guilty pleasure and can help you to wind down after a long day. Don’t feel guilty about it anymore, in moderation, beer can be part of a healthy diet. It can contribute to your daily intake of nutrients as it contains protein and B vitamins, as well as antioxidants, fibre and prebiotics which can help with the good bacteria in the gut. A study in the European Association for the Study of Diabetes concluded that it can help lower the risk of diabetes, as well as contributing to preventing osteoporosis by strengthening bones. There is also research to suggest that it can help to prevent cardiovascular disease and boost brain power as well as making it less likely to develop Alzheimer’s and dementia in those who consume moderate amounts.

Some studies have shown that even ageing can be biologically reversed by hyperbaric oxygen therapy by acting upon two key areas of the body thought responsible for frailty and deteriorating health in old age. It can also be used in treating mental health conditions or cognitive or memory problems. Hyperbaric oxygen greatly improves the body’s self-healing powers, and athletes speak of its benefits for enhancing their physical performance, improving their mental clarity, better sleep patterns, less inflammation and soreness after exercise and higher energy levels. Normobaric oxygen therapy Normobaric oxygen therapy is somewhat different, but is also used to treat a wide variety of ailments, including cluster headaches and migraines or in treating ischemic strokes. While Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the therapeutic administration of 100 per cent oxygen at environmental pressures greater than one atmosphere, normobaric oxygen therapy is administered at one atmosphere. Keeping healthy All of the benefits of oxygen therapy treatments contribute to well-being, both mental and physical, of those who use them, making them recommendable not only for treating ailments and injuries, but also to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

How many peanuts cause a reaction? A NEW study has attempted to discover how much peanut protein is needed to cause an allergic reaction in people who do not have a severe allergy The study, by Dr Lynne Haber, senior toxicologist at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, showed the ‘trigger dose,’ that is the amount of peanut protein that causes a reaction in a percentage of peanutsensitive patients. Some 481 patients were given increasingly large doses of peanut protein, in a controlled manner, until they had an allergic reaction. The trigger dose in 1 per cent of patients was 0.052 milligrams of peanut protein, about the weight of a single grain of salt. The dose that caused the reaction in 5 per cent of the patients was 0.49 milligrams, the equivalent to the weight of a grain of sugar.

Normobaric chambers Interview with Natalie Coles (NC), representative of Normobarico, as seen on Malaga 24h in an interview with Abraham Gomez (AG). AG> Normobarico as a company appears in a moment, when we are all increasingly worried about our health and we are looking for alternative ways to increase our quality of life. The product you offer is a normobaric chamber. What exactly is it? NC> A normobaric chamber is a cabin in which we create the perfect conditions for the recovery and regeneration of the human body. You sit in a chamber for two hours and without doing anything in particular you regain your health. You come out of it younger, slimmer and more good looking. AG> How could it be, how exactly does a normobaric chamber work? NC> In a word: stem cells. These are primary cells that can multiply and transform into specialized cells, thus creating new tissues. In the human body they restore and replace damaged cells. They are a fountain of health and beauty. Unfortunately, with the passage of time or due to diseases the human body regenerates its tissues more slowly. However, if we provide it with oxygen and hydrogen under conditions of higher than normal pressure, it is possible to stimulate the production of stem cells so that they rapidly multiply and act in the regeneration and rejuvenation of the human body. This is the question we are asking ourselves right now: have we found the elixir of youth? AG> Well yes, it sounds very good but we know of hyperbaric chambers that, according to our knowledge, are also beneficial for our health. What advantages does this normobaric chamber have over a hyperbaric chamber? NC> Although the hyperbaric chamber is something good and well-known - and it also focuses on the oxygenation of the body it uses a pressure considerably higher than the normobaric chamber, which stipulates a

NATALIE COLES: Explains the health benefits of a normobaric chamber in her radio interview. mandatory supervision by a medical specialist. When using the normobaric chamber, we do not need specialist supervision, which provides greater ease of use and does not entail any risk. Another difference is that we also provide increased levels of hydrogen, which acts as a very powerful natural antioxidant, as well as carbon dioxide, which helps the human body absorb oxygen much easier. AG> And how exactly do you use a normobaric chamber? NC> It is ridiculously easy to use. Basically you spend two hours of your life in a fairly large and very comfortable cabin. It is equipped with a bathroom, a large TV screen with Netflix, wifi, water and a coffee machine. During these two hours you can take a nap, read, catch up on news or emails, chat with your friends and family… You can even hold events or spend the entire night with your loved ones. The smallest chamber houses 4 people and the largest can house up to 19 people. AG> Do you think that at a time of a pandemic it is advisable to get into a room with 18 other people?

NC> Certainly it is something that we already have contemplated and that is why normobaric chambers are always used together with another product that we offer which is the air decontaminator. Unlike an air purifier, like the one you can buy in any appliance store, a decontaminator is a very powerful machine that not only filters the air, but literally eradicates viruses, bacteria and fungi with plasma and UV lighty with an efficiency of almost 100%. Speaking of the pandemic - let us not forget that oxygen therapy is something we need now more than ever! First, because it strengthens the immune system and second, because it accelerates regeneration after infection. And right now there are many people with damaged lungs due to the coronavirus. A normobaric chamber, right now, is a fantastic solution!. AG> If I wanted to try it, where should I go? NC> At this moment there are 40 normobaric chambers in Europe. Well ... the truth is that there are many more, but I’d call them “home-made”, because they do not have the certificates that we have. We are working

hard so that the first chamber arrives in Spain as soon as possible. We have high hopes that it will arrive in June, but it is difficult to promise an exact date due to the number of orders the factory has. We have decided to start with advertising to promote knowledge, so that the people who need a normobaric chamber hear us and are the first to try it once it is here on Costa del Sol.. AG> And is it possible to know which specific diseases can be treated with a NC? NC> The list is very long! We are receiving amazing testimonials from users, ensuring that even after just a single session you can already notice the results in the well-being of the body and mind. Normobaria aids in the fight against chronic diseases and disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, asthma, diabetes, rheumatism, heart and brain diseases, allergies, dermatological diseases, migraines, vascular dementia, Lyme disease, depression, autism, Asperger's syndrome ... among many others. It accelerates regeneration after chemotherapy, strokes, heart attacks and surgery, reduces traumatic and surgical scars and much more. In general, it is widely used in the

beauty sector because it increases the production of collagen and elastin that firms the skin, strengthens nails and hair. It is also widely used among athletes, because it supports recovery from excessive training or injuries and even works as a natural doping. It is virtually impossible to give a complete list of applications. You have to think the other way round, you have to first ask yourself what stem cells do. And what they do is - create new tissues and help regeneration. So the question should actually be: what diseases or disorders does the normobaric chamber NOT help treat? AG> It sounds amazing indeed. Who is this product aimed at? NC> It is mainly intended for professionals in the wellness, health and beauty sector such as hotels, spas, sports clubs, clinics, hospitals, etc. Although since it is so incredibly easy to use, individuals who want to improve their health, can also purchase a chamber and install it even in their garden. It is also important to mention two things: first, that each chamber is fully customisable, and second - or in fact THE most important thing - is that our product is the only normobaric chamber in the world that has received the necessary certificates from the EU, as well as the German TUV which is the most difficult to obtain. This provides complete peace of mind for both the user and the investor. Also, for the same reason - the peace of mind - we calibrate our chambers every 6 months. AG> It is clear that there are lots of benefits in a normobaric chamber.. Where should I go for more detailed information or to purchase one? NC> That is the simplest step, you just have to enter normobarico.es.

CANNABIS A HERBAL MEDICINE WITH

AMAZING RESULTS VER the last few years, CBD oil has helped many people with chronic conditions to a better life. The number can be counted in millions and new uses for the oil are constantly being discovered. The diseases range from cancer to Crohn’s, epilepsy to arthritis and joint problems. One of the strengths of the oil is that it is completely natural and without additives. One simply uses extracts of the hemp plant and that is it. No artificial chemistry, no side effects and no addiction. This means that more and more people are starting to take the oil due to the amazing results it produces. One of the pioneers in CBD oil and hemp products in general is located in San Pedro de Alcantara. The business Body n Soul is owned by Rita and Kim Gabrielsen and sells high quality organic oils. Some

O

of the oils they make themselves from scratch so the expertise is great in this area. Hemp has become a way of life, so to speak. The business was started four years ago with the desire to manufacture and sell high grade oil but for a price people can afford. We succeeded and today, our oil is exported to several countries in Europe and a larger factory near Malaga is underway so that more oil and more products can be produced. All the oils traded are full spectrum, based on the best organic materials and certified by independent laboratories to ensure continuous quality assurance. This also applies to the hemp oil and coconut oil used as the base oil for the CBD. All raw materials used in production are quality-assured and eco-stamped with the EU’s green certificate. Although the quality is high, the prices are more than fair. Here you get real value for money.

In addition to CBD oil, we sell CBD buds of own production and products from Dr Smoke. All are good supplements to CBD oil. We are very happy to advise on the use of CBD products and help find the product that is most optimal for you. Not everything is made from hemp. Good Aloe Vera products, organic wine and delicious high quality Spanish olive oils are also on sale. Olive oil in particular is a bestseller as it can be difficult to find good quality oil in the home country of olive oil. We ship all over Europe. As we want to expand our business, we are looking for partners around Europe with whom we can start a collaboration and thus bring our oils to a larger crowd. Come by the store and let’s talk about it or contact us via email. We’re open every day from 10am to 8pm

Selenium to live longer SELENIUM, the life-extending nutrient in red meat, fish, or whole grains, as well as some vegetables, is believed to protect against obesity and improve health. A study published in the scientific journal eLife shows that this nutrient provides metabolic benefits and that its deficiency can increase the risk of coronary heart disease and some types of cancer. Tests by the Orentreich Foundation for the Advancement of Cold Spring Science in New York showed that selenium provides health benefits for mice including protecting them from weight gain and could help prevent age-related diseases. Further studies should also show benefits in humans. Selenium is present in many foods, although its content varies from one to another. It is found mainly in foods rich in protein, such as walnuts, meat, eggs, fish and cereals.

Positive aromas AROMAS can have a positive effect on the way we feel, and how we use and combine them can cause different sensations. There are many ways in which you can fill your home with a pleasant aroma; they include candles, incense sticks and cones, oil burners, diffuser sticks and the increasingly popular aroma diffusers. Aroma diffusers are filled with water and your favourite essential oils and they use pressurised air to diffuse a mist of oil into the environment. They come in many shapes and sizes, and there are some which can be plugged in and have relaxing lighting to accompany the aroma mist. The effect itself is relaxing and inspiring, and said to be better than burning incense or oils because no smoke is produced. However, if incense or oils are burned in a wellventilated room and in safe conditions, there is no reason why it should harmful or dangerous. Diffusers should also be used in moderation and not for long periods of time in small, enclosed spaces. Which aroma you use, depends on your tastes, but there are also said to be certain benefits associated to

Lemon: Can help with concentration and clarity, and help to calm you if you are feeling angry or anxious. Rosemary: Improves memory retention and reduces exhaustion, headaches and fatigue. What are Veneers? The smile of our future VENEERS are thin pieces of tough, tooth coloured porcelain that are created in a dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the surface of the teeth to create an attractive, seamless appearance. Veneers are made to correct a number of dental issues, including cracks, discolouration, misalignment and gaps between teeth. They are often used as alternatives to crowns and considered an ideal solution for many dental conditions because they dont require a major procedure. Veneers are a good treatment option to consider if you are suffering from a chipped or broken tooth, if you have one or more teeth coloured different from the rest.

They can also be used to close small gaps, when braces or aligners are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into the line with the others. Dental porcelain veneers can be used as part of a smile makeover. What is the processs? 1. Digital smile planning. The smile makeover starts at our consultation, where we find out what patients don’t like about their teeth and what type of smile is required. With a digital smile design we get the required tooth shapes and colour the patient wishes. 2. 3D preview. When the patient is ready to proceed with treatment the next

step is to create a 3D preview model, so we can check for aesthetics and function. 3. Trial smile. The patient will book two main treatment appoinments. At the first appoinment the teeth are prepared. This process involves trimming back a thin layer from the front surface and biting edge to make space for the veneers. Impressions are taken and temporary veneers are made using a template with the 3d preview model. This gives our patient an opportunity to trial the planned smile design in their own mouths before the veneers are made. So we can reproduce the changes in the final veneers.

Strengthen your immune system DID you know that there are foods that strengthen your immune system and others which can weaken it? Having a strong immune system is very important for your health so you are not as vulnerable to infections or viruses, so it is essential to eat foods which strengthen it. Eating a varied, balanced diet, full of vitamins and minerals and steering away from ultraprocessed foods will help to keep your immune system strong. Vitamin C, found in kiwis, strawberries, grapefruit, broccoli, peach, cauliflower, tomato and parsley, among many other foods, is very important, as is zinc, an antioxidant and anti inflammatory which can be found in red meats, legumes, nuts, and cheese. Iron can help to prevent anaemia and is present in eggs, prawns, spinach, lentils or beans, among others. Stick with natural, fresh foods for a strong and healthy immune system.

VENEERS: Are a good treatment option for a smile makeover.

New food trends IN the past year, our lives have been changed drastically, including our eating habits, but for the coming year, the aim is to get back on track, boost our immunity and keep healthy. Here are just some of the names we will be hearing this year on the health food scene: Kelp Kelp has been used in oriental cooking for thousands of years and made its way into the world’s kitchen more recently, mainly in dried form. Now, we are likely to see more fresh kelp in dishes, as it

contains minerals such as calcium and B vitamins. Postbiotics Reports suggest that one of the names we’ll be hearing more from now on is postbiotics. These are the end product of the fermentation carried out in the gut by probiotics and are believed to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits and could help to protect the immune system. They will be used in supplements and food products and are present in products such as kefir and sauerkraut.

Microgreens These are the ‘baby versions’ of plants like carrots and broccoli and the variety is now increasing, including radishes, beets, celery, peas, spinach and cabbages, all of them full of nutrients, in fact, it has been suggested that they have 40 times more than the traditional mature variety. Mustard and cress have been popular for decades in many countries, but they are trending now, so watch out for more of them in salads and smoothies as well as sandwiches.

TRENDING: Mustard and cress.

Do you suffer from any of these? Here are some symptoms to watch out for if you suspect the following ailments. If you are suffering from these, see a doctor: Ailment Blood pressure Diabetes Cholesterol

Symptoms Headaches Shortness of breath Increased hunger / thirst Increased urination Nausea Shortness of breath

Nose bleeds Extreme fatigue Extreme fatigue

Chest pain Blurred vision Chest pain

A book before bed READING before you go to sleep at night has many benefits and is much better for you than flicking through social media, so say goodbye to the screen and dive into a good book. One of the main benefits is that it allows you to take your mind off other things and relax, which in turn reduces stress. It also allows you to take in new information, which boosts your brain, improving spelling and vocabulary even if you are reading fiction and fantasy. At the same time, it broadens your mind, giving you different perspectives and makes you more creative. It doesn’t matter what you read, as long as you like it, it will help you to relax and to sleep better.

Better cancer treatment NEW guidance from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the procurement of radiotherapy equipment could improve access to life-saving cancer treatment. The publication aims to ensure that equipment is appropriate to each country and to the health facility contexts, as well as making sure that treatment is delivered safely, that quality of the treatment is maintained, and that services are sustainable. More than 50 per cent of patients with cancer require radiotherapy and is frequently used to treat breast, cervical, colorectal, and lung cancer. However, one-third of countries still do not have radiotherapy available, out of which 28 are in Africa, said May Abdel-Wahab, Director of the IAEA’s Division of Human Health. Radiotherapy is just one element in the management of cancer, others include diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing, pathology, surgery, systemic treatment and palliative care.

Holistic therapy HOLISTIC THERAPY views an individual as a whole person instead of just focusing on an illness or psychological issue. It also aims to address the needs of the mind, body and spirit, as all the parts of a being. Self-perception Holistic therapy assumes that a person’s self-perception is not in a single area of their being but is rather a whole entity made of the interaction between the brain, the body and the feelings or emotions of the spirit. The aim of the therapy is to make the person aware of these connections so that they have a better understanding of themselves. Once individuals have self-acceptance, they can work on issues which are troubling them such as depression, anxiety, or addictions of all kinds. Working on the body Treatments and therapies used by holistic therapists include: Breathing and relaxation, Yoga, Tai chi, Massage Reiki, Reflexology All of the above promote the connection between the body and the

mind and influence the energy fields of the human body which affect physical and mental health. Finding balance The theory behind the holistic approach is to find balance between all the different aspects of a person. So while methods to treat an ailment are found, a holistic therapist would focus on the emotional aspects it presents, their attitude towards it, how it affects their life and relationships. Treatment Physical treatment can include acupuncture, massage, Tai Chi, breathing techniques, exercise and natural therapy. Rather than targeting individual symptoms, a holistic therapist will take into account physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social well-being. When can it help? Holistic therapy can help with matters in all of these areas: Physical: pain, illness, fatigue, addictions... Emotional: anger, sadness, worry... Mental: depression, anxiety, stress... Spiritual: feeling empty, lost, incomplete... Social: social anxiety, relationships, self-confidence...

Minimising effect of stress SAYING that the way to keep stress related skin problems at bay is to avoid stress is not very helpful, as no-one wants to be stressed, but there are ways to minimise the problem. • Don’t neglect your daily skin care routine, even if you’re tired. • Get exercise, it’s good for your health, both mental and physical, even if it’s just a quick walk around the block. • Get plenty of sleep, don’t work into the night, set limits to how long you work. • Take time to do something that makes you feel good. From yoga and meditation, to reading a book, taking a relaxing bath, playing a game on your phone or colouring some mandalas, whatever lets you wind down, take some time to do it. • Seek help; medical, therapy or just support from a friend, but make sure you talk to someone. • The skin problems themselves may add to your stress if you are worried about the way you look, do what needs to be done to cure them and feel better about yourself.

Red wine for the heart RESEARCHERS have long been studying the possible health benefits of red wine, and most agree moderate consumption is good for you. Even in medieval times, monks believed they would live longer thanks to their regular wine drinking, and this may be true, as science indicates it has benefits for cardiovascular health. Spain is one of the best places to test the theory, as there is a wide variety of local wines available at all different prices to suit your budget. The health benefits of red wine may come from its antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and fat-regulating effects. Antioxidants reduce oxidative stress which is linked to many diseases, including cancer and heart disease.

Hyperbaric Medicine YPERBARIC oxygen therapy (hyper-major, bar-pressure unit) is a treatment in which patients breathe pure oxygen at higher pressure. For this they enter a chamber that doubles or triples the pressure at sea level. This type of treatment is especially indicated for wound healing in general, for postoperative recovery, support for plastic and reconstructive surgery, anti-ageing, strokes, burns, autism, stress, tiredness and fatigue, helping, to improve the quality of life in general. Also to mention the advantages of undergoing treatments with Hyperbaric Oxygenation for athletes as it not only helps prevention and healing of injuries, but contributes to improving physical performance. For more information about Clínica Médica Hiperbárica of Estepona, you can visit the following address on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=a4B5MabdRRM Likewise, the hyperbaric chambers of the Estepona Hyperbaric Medical Clinic are made of totally transparent material, have direct communication with healthcare assistants and meet the maximum technical and sanitary guarantee

H

HYPERBARIC CHAMBER: Beneficial for multiple ailments. conditions required, in addition to the greater exclusivity of the market as it is single-seater. This fact also allows greater time flexibility for patients and exhaustive compliance with all anti-Covid-19 measures. The Estepona HMCE Hyperbaric Medical Clinic has been offering treatments based on the application of hyperbaric oxygen inside pressurised chambers for more than six years. Through this system, oxygen is converted into medicine, being beneficial for multiple ailments as

well as preventing many other diseases. HMCE is a modern Hyperbaric Medicine centre located on the Estepona promenade where treatments are carried out in a totally personalised way following the indications offered by the clinic's head doctor and scrupulously respecting all Covid-19 protocols. The patient is introduced into a state-of-the-art hyperbaric chamber where he receives his treatment, the protocol and duration of which will depend on the objective to be pursued.

SCIENTIFIC research aimed at curing diseases has been betting on increasingly personalised and individualised treatments for many years. Everything is leading to treating each person according to their characteristics and based on how the disease is affecting them. In this sense, hyperbaric medicine has a lot to say in individualised and personalised health treatments and, above all, in the prevention of a multitude of diseases and in the general improvement of the human body. Hyperbaric oxygen achieves a comprehensive stimulation of the body by making blood circulation reach places where, for various reasons or diseases, it normally does not reach. This causes a general improvement that is already scientifically proven in multiple ailments and pathologies: scarring, cerebral palsy, fibromyalgia, diabetic foot, ulcers and wounds, trauma, among others. Recently, an investigation by Israeli scientists has managed to discover that a certain hyperbaric therapy is capable of reversing human ageing. That shortening increases the risk of mutations in the future, which can often lead to age-related diseases, such as certain types of cancer. In medical universities, hyperbaric therapy is still somewhat unknown, but gradually and thanks to the concerns of the patients themselves and citizens in general, hyperbaric oxygen is being imposed for the treatment of general wellbeing. This already occurs among patients who attend the HMCE Hyperbaric Medical Clinic in Estepona on a daily basis. Recently, the director of the centre, Sady Alexandra Licintuña, made statements motivated by the Israeli discovery, where she stated “of the thousands of patients who have passed through our facilities in these years, 70 per cent have done it to receive prevention treatments and improvement of general well-being. “In some foreign countries, hyperbaric medicine treatments are well known and in demand. “Many of our patients take the opportunity to spend a few days off on our wonderful Costa del Sol and in the process undergo their annual hyperbaric therapy treatment to stay young and in good health.”

Green tea for health GREEN tea, native to China and India, has been consumed for its health benefits for centuries globally, and has now gained popularity throughout the world. Tea is brewed from the dried leaves of a bush called Camellia sinensis and the type of tea depends on the level of oxidation. Green tea is made from unoxidised leaves and is hardly processed, meaning it contains beneficial ingredients. It was traditionally used to control bleeding and heal wounds, aid digestion, improve heart and mental health, and regulate body temperature, but recent studies suggest it could help with a variety of needs from weight loss to Alzheimer’s disease, so get sipping!

Which brew is the best for you? COFFEE, consumed by millions around the world, plays an important role in our society. Many people feel that they simply can’t live without it and it is present in everything from friendly gatherings to important business meetings. Some feel that they can’t start their morning without it and will include more than one caffeine boost to get them through the day. Of all its many variations, can you guess which is the best for productivity? Experts at BrewSmartly.com conducted a study investigating with 4,250 volunteers to find out just that. They asked participants to complete short tasks before consumption of a specific coffee type and after. The one that increased productivity the most was the espresso, resulting in an 80 per cent increase, with participants completing an average of five of 10 tasks before the shot was drunk and nine of 10 tasks after. In second place was a regular sized cup of black coffee, increasing productivity by 75 per cent; and in third place came iced coffee with 67 per cent. Surprisingly, decaf came fifth, with a 50 per cent productivity increase, comparable with espresso macchiato

and latte. Meanwhile, coming at the bottom of the table were the frappuccino, with just a 14 per cent increase and participants even saying that it was too heavy to concentrate and made them feel like napping afterwards, BrewSmartly.com reported. Second from the bottom came Irish coffee, with a 17 per cent increase in the tasks completed after consuming it, but considering it contains Irish whiskey it’s not surprising and the

whipped that cream topping with nutmeg make it tasty, but it does not increase productivity. Also with just 17 per cent was the cappuccino, and in third place, the café au lait with 25 per cent, this is dark coffee with hot milk. Its close relative, the flat white, which is an espresso with hot milk, did much better with an increase of 33 per cent. So, now you know what you should be drinking if you want to have a more productive day.

Visiting your dentist YOUR smile is such an important part of who you are, you should be proud to show it off. Having a healthy mouth and smile is important not just to your appearance and confidence, but also for your wellness. To ensure the best oral hygiene and care, you should ideally visit your dentist every six months at least. What are the benefits of getting regular checkups? • Prevent plaque, cavities, tartar and tooth decay • Prevent gum disease • Check for oral cancer and other health issues with x-rays and other techniques • Reverse bad habits • Get advice Your dentist can give you advice on how to best look after your mouth between checkups. Good practices include regularly brushing your teeth (at least twice a day) with toothpaste that contains fluoride and flossing daily. Use mouthwash for a more thorough oral health routine as it helps to control plaque bacteria and keep your breath fresh.

Stress can take its toll ARE you aware of the effects that stress can have on your skin? It’s not just a matter of your skin looking tired, if you don’t take care of your mental well-being, your skin will suffer. When you’re stressed, one of the most common skin problems is dull and dehydrated skin. If you are not getting enough sleep, not eating properly and not drinking enough (or drinking the wrong things), you will probably notice that your skin starts to lose its glow and can become dry. The good news is that if the cause of stress is temporary, the skin problem will be too. Up your intake of vegetables, drink plenty of water and get more sleep and you should see your skin look better again.

www.euinsurancedirect.com Stress in your head WHEN we hear about skin problems, we immediately think of the face and body, but another area severely affected by stress and anxiety is the scalp. Eczema and psoriasis can spread to the scalp, causing itching, scabs and flaking. When stressed, you can scratch your scalp, making the problem worse. There are special shampoos or try more natural methods. Eczema Many people suffer from eczema, which causes irritation and dryness of the skin, and can be aggravated by many external factors, but also by stress. Make sure you stay hydrated and keep your skin moisturised. Psoriasis This causes thickening of the skin with red patches and white scales. Outbreaks are worsened by worry and stress, treat with creams.

you exercise correctly and avoid injury. Amongst the different options, there is a growing preference for the so-called lunchtime workouts, which can be done during a break of between 10 to 15 minutes. Short but intensive workouts will keep you motivated and consistent. If a speedy training session is just not for you, there is no need to compromise, look for something which focuses on unwinding and relaxing as well as keeping fit. Yoga, Pilates and other exercise can help you to focus on your breathing and reconnect your mind and body. All trainers agree on one thing: that with the more sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits, it is important to keep fit in other ways, not only physically, but also mentally, to keep the stress of confinement and uncertain times at bay. The healing practice of Reiki has also kept up with the times and Reiki masters are now trained to send their healing powers to their clients wherever they may be.
