to Spain’s economic and social system. It was impossible, they agreed, for any other productive sector to substitute it long or short-term, hence the concept that tourism was a vaccine promising a return to normality.
“A year ago we predicted the devastating effect that the virus would have on our sector and today we can see that we weren’t mistaken,” Toni Mayor declared. “Nevertheless, the scenario is very positive,” Mayor said. “Our climate, the return to outdoor life, increased immunity and the vaccine will all combine to herald the coming of spring after the long winter of the pandemic.” The Hosbec president saw July “at the very latest and in the worst case” as the starting point for a return to normality.
