BEACH READY

REGIONAL government, the Junta de Andalucia, allocated €5.1 million for improvements to the beaches of 12 coastal municipalities. Two Almeria Province towns are amongst them and cash is go­ ing to Nijar and Carboneras who will receive €499,876 and €472,300 respectively. Fifty municipalities applied for one of these grants, which even­ tually went to a chosen 12 who met the 20 requirements stipulat­ ed by the Junta. “Our forecasts suggest that re­ covery of the tourism sector will be noticeable by the second half of next year,” announced the Jun­ ta’s vice­president Juan Marin, who also heads the regional gov­ ernment’s department of

Happy and safe for 3 Kings ADRA is planning a safe Christmas adapted to the pre­ sent health situation. The town hall has reinvent­ ed its programme while guar­ anteeing that the Three Wise men will visit Adra both on­ line and in person, pledged Adra’s mayor, Manuel Cortes. “We have put together a programme with children at its centre, although the cele­ brations will be different ow­ ing to the circumstances,”

the mayor said. “As well as greeting the children the Three Kings will visit Adra and be with us all day on January 5 to receive and greet them.” Cortes explained that there would be no contact with the Baltasar, Melchor and Gaspar to guarantee the children’s safety, but all would talk indi­ vidually to local children on­ line. Andalucia wanted to be amongst the first international tourist desti­ nations that were ready to receive tourists, Marin said. “These grants will help us to overtake our competitors and to be leaders once more, as we were in 2019.” The Junta’s Tourism chief pointed out that now was the perfect time to award the grants. “These municipalities will be able to prepare their beaches so they can offer destinations that have been renewed, are modern, sustainable and safe,” Marin said. It was vital that they should be ready to wear their best faces once life returned to normal, he added.
