MIXED FEELINGS
THE Balearic Government is sued a draft expression of its probable intentions for Christ mas and the New Year under the title ‘Proposals for public health measures against Covid19 for the celebration of the Christmas holidays.’ The document has been re ceived with mixed feelings as some believe that it is too re strictive whilst others feel that Covid19 doesn’t take any time off, therefore any relaxation of restrictions could be danger ous. In essence it wants to restrict certain family and social gather ings to a maximum of six peo ple and to keep the curfew as it is except for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when it would run from 1am to 6am. Whilst families who live to gether will not have to stick to a six person maximum, the inten tion is that any gathering which includes people from more than one household should be limited to six either in a house or if a work or social related
event outdoors (on a terrace for example) if possible. As would be expected, those diagnosed with Covid19, those who are awaiting the result of a test or have been in contact with a sufferer during the previ ous 14 days, should not attend any such function. In addition, people are re minded to observe all of the recommended health mea sures, including masks, social distancing, hand washing, use of gel and wherever possible ei ther keep doors or windows open to ensure maximum ven tilation. No decision has yet been reached with regards to stu dents returning home for the Christmas holidays or other visi tors from Spain who may be re

quired to undertake PCR tests and the Balearic Government says that it is in discussion with Madrid. One thing is fairly certain however and that is Local Police will be particularly vigilant in the run up to Christmas and the Three Kings to ensure that whatever the final decision is concerning, curfews, lock downs and the ability to mix more easily, they will enforce the law. By the time that the extend ed hospitality hours are agreed (assuming that they are) it is more than likely that restau rants will use QR systems (as they do for menus) to record the details of customers.
