BOOKING WORRIES

THE tourism industry in the Murcia region and southern Costa Blanca is bracing itself for a big fall in Easter accommodation bookings, as people stay away because of coronavirus fears. Juan José López, president of the Cartagena hoteliers association, predicted that reservation levels in his area of the Costa Calida could be “disastrous” this year, and that Easter bookings could hit a record low, especially if the traditional Semana Santa parades are curtailed to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

BOOKINGS: People are staying away. Valencian tourist chiefs have taken to social me-

dia to launch a campaign that proclaims the

Costa Blanca as a safe and healthy area to visit. Hotel associations covering the region have confirmed a drop so far of around 10 per cent in reservations for Easter and the summer. But they also expressed optimism that the numbers would go up if the spread of the virus slows down or stops.
