AFTER experiencing first-hand the devastating effects of domestic abuse, Mallorca resident Tina Arvidssoon strived to help women and children who were subject to gender-based violence. Having lived on the island for over six years, Tina, together with her colleague Anette from Mallorca Event Group, wanted to give something back to the community that would make a positive change to the lives of the most vulnerable individuals. PRAISE: Alberto Encinas thanked the Guardia Civil for their dedication in finding his daughter.
AN eight-year long nightmare ended for Alberto Encinas as he was reunited with his beloved daughter who he had not seen since she was three-years-old. The young girl was found by police in Poland last week after an arrest warrant was issued to find her mother who was wanted for kidnapping. The girl has now arrived safely home, surrounded by her relatives who had longed for her return for so many years.
Alongside his family, Alberto visited the Guardia Civil Palma headquarters to thank officers for their dedication to the investigation.
they have nowhere to go. Thankfully, Tina came across SI-Mallorca, a foundation which helps over 800 people who desperately need help. With her support, the foundation plans to rent a house where abused women can stay with their children for free until they get back on their feet. Speaking to Tina she explained that in the case of abused women “an instant decision must be made to leave a volatile relationship, and if they don’t have anywhere to go, they simply will stay.” Matters are amplified when there are children involved, with mothers feeling completely helpless, trapped and alone.
The cases of gender-violence are alarming in Mallorca, where just in Palma there were 3,497 cases reported in 2018. The Department of Comprehensive Attention to Gender Violence also revealed that the Balearic Islands leads the ranking of women who are abused in Spain. For this reason, Tina has thrown her support behind SIMallorca through organising lunches to raise money for the organisation. She said: “most of the time you give money but don’t know where it goes, but in this case you will see a result.” This Sunday there will be a charity lunch hosted at Il Paradiso.
