DRAMA AT HIGH SEAS MOTRIL Port Authorities intercepted an inflatable vessel on Tuesday morning, 20 miles from the port of Motril containing over 70 immigrants. Among the occupants was a heavily pregnant woman who started to give birth once the authorities arrived. The Guardia Civil Servicio Maritimo was alerted to the vessel at around 8am, and within an hour, a police interception was underway a s t h e b oa t approached the Motril coastline. The Guardia Civil aimed to hold the vessel until the Maritime rescue boat took over, however one of the occupants began giving birth to a flurr y of commotion. The police took the decision to remove the woman and transport her back to shore to an awaiting ambulance, ready to take her to the Santa Ana hospital. Meanwhile the maritime rescue unit had apprehended the rest of the occupants and they were brought back to shore to be transferred to the Malaga immigrant centre.

DAVID SERRANO, the owner of the well that claimed the life of twoyear-old Julen, has seen his voluntary bankruptcy claim rejected by the Malaga courthouse. The Court of First Instance number 14 of Malaga has refused to file the claim as the case does not meet one of the stipulations required by the insolvency law. According to judicial courses, the precautionary measure of declaring voluntary bankruptcy to assist with the payment of the massive fines imposed on him, is not cause to accept the request. SUPPORT: Velez government gives support for victims caught up in the Catalan riots.

The trial of David Serrano will begin on January 21, a week after the one-year anniversary of the death of Julen in Totalan in 2018.

RIOT SUPPORTED IN the latest plenary session held on Friday, Velez-Malaga councillors showed their support for those affected in the Catalan riots. In a statement read out at the start of the meeting, Velez-Malaga Council wanted to declare its firm condemnation of the violent acts carried out by radical extremists in Barcelona, whilst also praising the work done by the public services during the protests. The council also showed its support

for any citizens that were affected in the riots. During the meeting, the members also unanimously agreed on improvements to the Los Olivos School and an agreement to the decree law of urgent measures for the adequacy of irregular housing.
