SHOT 26 TIMES BRAVERY OVERLOOKED POLITICAL group Ciudadanos will ask the government for answers after a policeman wasn’t awarded a medal for bravely facing drug traffickers. Officer Tito Garzón was badly injured after a shooting with traffickers in Estepona. After the incident in September of 2018, the other two officers received medals for bravery but Garzón was never decorated for his involvement. Irene Rivera, who is the candidate for Ciudadanos in Malaga, has criticised the actions and demands a response. She singles out Inte-

Tito Garzón has broken his silence and has expressed disappointment with the decision that he believes
wasn’t logical. He concludes the incident is worrying and is willing to go to court. During the stand-off with the armed drug traffickers he was shot around 26 times and survived miraculously. Rivera has also spoken out about the lack of psychological help that was offered to the officers. She reiterates that looking after police officers and their mental health is of utmost importance. Mentioning her opposition - PP and PSOE - the politician questions the criteria that is followed when deciding to bestow recognition.
Hospital opening delayed ESTEPONA’S new hospital, first thought to be reopened later this year, will now remain closed until an unspecified date in 2020. According to the Board, although the structure itself has been complete for almost a year, the delay was due to minor modifications. The work, with an investment of more than €17 million, has been paid for by the
city of Estepona under an agreement signed in 2016 with the Ministry of Health. The agreement stated that once construction work was finished, the regional administration, through the Andalucian Health Service, will take care of the hospital’s provision, operation and maintenance costs. Part of the contract included important diagnostic imaging equipment
as well as operating room equipment and general furniture, with a budget of more than €4 million. The health centre, located in the Santa Maria area, incorporates the concept of Single Act Consultation which aims at ensuring all tests and examinations are carried out in a single visit thus reducing waiting times and allowing for more attention to each patient.
