An intrepid flight By Dilip Kuner FIVE days, 1,850 miles covered, 23 hours flying, 19 airfields visited, four countries, 280 litres of fuel. Those are the stats for two men who have flown from South Wales to Malaga on an intrepid voyage in a self-built light aircraft to mark the 27th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Not only that, but Andy Hodder, who lives on the Costa del Sol, and Andy Roberts have raised more than £3,000 for the Help for Heroes charity for forces veterans. Andy said they took in the flight, the route of which

crossed Normandy to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day. His Grandfather took part in the landings in June 1944. They overflew all of the Normandy beaches and on to Pegasus Bridge and the
memorials before continuing south to Blois. This was the highlight of their trip which gave the two an opportunity to pay their respects to those who fell. They then crossed into Spain near Barcelona, then on
to Castellon and down the coast to coast to Vera (Almeria). They then made the final leg of their flight to reach Malaga. Andy Hodder said: “A huge thanks to all of you from both of us for an astounding £3,000 raised for Help for Heroes.” Andy, who lives in Alhaurin el Grande, added: “It was the best experience of my life. Absolutely fantastic. It was very special when we flew over the Normandy beaches.” He was born and brought up in Spain before returning to the UK and serving for 23 years in the RAF. “I then thought it was time to return to my roots - and here I am!”

Snap election bid fails LAST night Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s motion for a snap general election failed to achieve the required number of votes to win. Johnson was 136 votes short for an early election. MPs voted 298 for and 56 against, with 434 votes needed to win. Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn had made it clear he would not support the motion last night. He wanted the new Brexit Bill passed into law before fighting a General Election. At the time of going to press, peers in the House of Lords were still voting on amendments to the business motion which aims at ensuring the no-deal bill has time to become law before the suspension of Parliament.
