Tourism doing just fine LIKES: Almeria’s beaches are one of the aspects of the province visitors like most.
TOURISM in Almeria Province is doing just fine, figures from the regional government suggest. The n u m b e r o f p e o p le visiting the province in the second quarter of the year totalled nearly 715,000, 5.2 per cen t m o r e t h a n i n th e s ame p e r i o d o f 2 0 1 8 , a c cordin g t o t h e An d a l u c ia Tourist Joint Survey. Nearly 60 per cent of the visitors to Almeria over the three months were Spanish,
of whom half were from Andalucia. Another 30 per cent were European Union citizens, and one in 10 were from other parts of the world. Service, wining and dining, beaches, national parks, landscapes, golf infrastructure, leisure options, traffic levels and accommodation were what tourists liked most about their time in this part of the country; 45 per cent of travellers said accommodation had exceeded
the ir e xpe c ta tions . The y were less full of praise for the province’s public transport system. The average length of a s ta y w a s 8.4 da ys , the longest for any of the Anda luc ia n provinc e s , a lthough 1.4 da ys dow n on last year. Ty p i c a l d a i l y s p e n d i n g added up to €61.9, which is around €8 below the regional average, and 7.6 per cent less than the second
quarter of 2018. More than 90 per cent of the visitors were in the province on holiday. The remainder travelled to Almeria to vis it fa mily a nd friends. Two out of three stayed in hotels and 27 per in apartments or villas. Almeria attracted 8 per cent of the visitors to Andalucia between the beginning of April and the end of June.
