COSTA BLANCA NORTH

YOUR PAPER, YOUR VOICE, YOUR OPINION

Stranded at airport A WOMAN of 24 was stranded for 10 hours at Alicante Airport after Ryanair reportedly refused to let her board her flight due to her ‘swollen face’ not matching her passport photo. Shannon Wotherspoon suffered a skin irritation during her holiday on the Costa Blanca which caused her face to swell. When she presented her passport to the Ryanair checkin staff they said that the resemblance was not clear and there was also minor water damage to the edge of her passport.

STRANDED: Shannon Wotherspoon was refused boarding.

After speaking to a supervisor it became clear that she would not be able to board the flight and was forced to book an alternative flight to Edinburgh with British Airways for an additional €230. British Airways had no issue with her passport and Shannon eventually made it home. A spokesman for Ryanair said: “It is each passenger’s individual responsibility to ensure that he or she is travelling on a valid passport (not expired or damaged), in compliance with Ryanair’s terms and conditions.”

Arson and threats against sister A 45-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in Valencia for allegedly setting fire to the apartment that his sister was staying in, as well as threatening to stab her. The incident occurred in the maritime district of Valencia at around 11pm last Thursday (July 25) when Local Police officers were alerted to a fire that was started on the fourth floor of an apartment block.

Once officers arrived on the scene they entered the room to find a woman trying to extinguish the flames. She was taken outside to avoid injury through smoke inhalation. Firefighters got the blaze quickly under control and the woman was interviewed. During the interview police apprehended a ‘nervous looking man’ trying to leave the building. The woman jumped up and pounced on

the man, shouting “in the end you got what you wanted, burn the floor!” It was quickly deduced that the two parties were brother and sister and an argument had started after the woman had said she did not want to live at the flat any more. As the man was arrested he reportedly shouted: “I will kill my sister when I leave, I will stab her twice.”
