A COMPLEX criminal network who allegedly committed scams through fraudulent web pages and subsequent ‘phishing’ scams, which reportedly netted the criminals €1 million has been shut down. A statement from the National Police revealed that, so far, officers have arrested 45 people from all tiers of the criminal network, 12 from Alicante, 30 from the province of Madrid, one from Sevilla, one from Albacete and one from Barcelona. Using sophisticated deception techniques, they managed to extract the passwords to their online banking and proceed, in real time, to carry out illegal operations, crediting one of the 286 false bank accounts investigators have so far identified.
