Barefoot trek
A BRITISH man is currently attempting to break the world record for the longest barefoot walk after setting out from Gibraltar for Lancashire in aid of a cancer hospice. Matthew Strange, from Preston, left the British enclave without shoes on Monday March 11. He is now crossing Andalucia after stopping in Malaga City on Friday. Matthew is undertaking the journey in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice and he has raised more than €1,426 so far. The hospice, in his home town of Preston, cared for his stepfather who was admitted with cancer in 2015. Matthew said he was working in Gibraltar when he found out stepfather Simon had been taken ill. “I ended up getting a train to Madrid, a plane to Brussels

book. His posts have included him lying in a hammock by an Andalucian lake and waking up atop a mountain on Monday morning before heading ‘deeper into the wilderness.’ Matthew’s route is around 2,768 kilometres. That is the equivalent of €1 for every kilometre, he said.
