A world of promotion THE Costa Almeria destination name is set to travel the world thanks to a sponsorship deal with the national handball teams. Under the agreement between the provincial government and the Royal Federation of Spanish Handball, Costa Almeria becomes an official sponsor throughout 2019 of the national men’s team and the women’s team in the absolute, youth promise and beach handball categories. The Costa de Almeria brand name will feature on the teams’ shirt fronts at all events, including this month’s men’s World Cup in Germany and Denmark, and in all publicity materials for the teams’ matches. The brand and images of the province will also feature in the men’s team World Cup promotional spots. Almeria Council Vice-President Javier A Garcia and Royal Federation of Spanish Handball President Francisco Blazquez made the deal official at an act in the Provincial Palace in Almeria City at the end of December. Garcia said the sponsorship agreement would promote the Costa Almeria in new markets, commenting, “Joining our tourist destination to sport of the highest level is our best

Hence we are backing this pairing as the engine for generating wealth, employment and to tackle depopulation.” The Vice-President stressed it was “a great honour” to link the Costa Almeria brand to the handball team players, who he said “embody the values which
enrich society, like strength, sacrifice, comradeship and working as a team.” The Federation President thanked the council for its support, commenting, “We have to celebrate this backing of sport as a way of projecting internationally your brand image. “We are at the most important time for players and trainers, and we are excited to work here in Almeria, a land which
really treasures handball.” Also present for the signing were players from the men’s national team, who were spending the week in preWorld Cup training in Almeria City. Captain Raul Entrerrios said his team was grateful to the Almeria authorities for providing the facilities to help them “reach their goal,” adding, “I hope Almeria brings us lots of luck.”
