AS the price of avocados has increased, so has the number of thefts taking place from Axarquia’s farms. The price of the Hass variety of avocado - the most popularly grown in Axarquia - has risen to around €2.80 to €3 per kilo after other regions have recently failed to produce much crop. This increase has also seen the number of thefts from avocado farms surge, however, with the Asaja Malaga Agrarian Association calling the spate ‘brutal.’ Farmers have since called on police to step up the number of rural patrols to prevent further financial losses.

Tragic end By Sally Underwood A BRITISH man who was resuscitated by police in Torrox after suffering a heart attack in the street has died in hospital. Two Local Policemen performed CPR on the 81-yearold man after he fell ill in the middle of the street, managing to restore his pulse and stabilise him, but he died two days later in hospital.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, reportedly lived in Torrox for 15 years before suffering a heart attack walking down the busy Avenida de Andalucia, near the beach on Torrox Costa. The case had initially seemed to have a happy ending after the man was resuscitated by two Local Policemen, Alejandro Ortiz, 38, and German Luque, 39. Officer Luque told one
PROSECUTORS in Malaga have agreed to investigate the president of the Axarquia Commonwealth over alleged misappropriation of public funds. Lawyers will look into whether Gregorio Campos is guilty of claiming €598 in ‘maintenance’ payments in 2015. The prominent politician, who is also mayor of Iznate, denies the charges, saying the claims were made legitimately during the period he was acting as president of the Axarquia Commonwealth, but before he
