Social and sporting figure killed in crash MALLORCA is in mourning following the death of a hugely popular bar restaurant and live music venue owner, Guillermo Lera, who was killed in a motorbike accident on Sunday. The 38-year-old proprietor of the Irish-themed Shamrock bar in Palma, popular with expatriates and Spanish alike, died in the early hours when his Yamaha XVS hit a traffic signal in front of the Gesa building. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, but could do nothing to save the businessman. No other cars were involved and the Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the circumstances. sporting events. His culinary passion saw his venue crowned winner of last year’s 12th annual TaPalma contest, a celebration of traditional and contemporary tapas designed to showcase the creativity of local chefs. As a mark of respect, organisers of TaPalma 2018 cancelled the ribbon cutting and inauguration act of the tapas and cocktails route, which was scheduled to take place at Shamrock yesterday (Wednesday). One of the many condolences and tributes posted on Facebook, read: “His spirit will undoubtedly remain latent in Shamrock, the place where thousands of people from Palma had the privilege
of vibrating to the best live concerts. Palma music, culture and sport worlds are in mourning.”
