Floods hit by Joe Gerrad EMERGENCY services were called out to Cartagena to rescue schoolchildren from a bus that was left hanging over a roadside last Monday during storms across the Costa Blanca. The 112 emergency services line received a total of 420 call outs due to heavy rains and floods from last Sunday to Monday in the Murcia region alone. More than 40 road traffic personnel and 15 machines were deployed to nine roads across the region after they were closed due to flooding. Eight were reopened by Monday morning. S c h o o l s i n To r r e v i e j a were forced to shut after around 100 litres per square metre of rain fell on the town from Sunday night to Monday morning.

TIPPING POINT: The school bus was trapped near Cartagena. More than 136,000 children across 88 Valencia region towns and cities were affected, according to reports.
