SALVADOR FERNANDEZ: was found hanged at his family farm.

THE mayor of El Borge has been found dead at his family farm. Forty-seven-year-old Salvador Fernandez was found hanged f r o m a t r e e a t th e farm near the town’s football pitch. Residents and fellow p o l i t i c i a n s h a v e come out in high numbers expressing their shock at what is believed to be a suicide. The Guardia Civil confirmed the politician’s body had been found dead hanging fro m a t r e e wi t h n o signs of violence. He died on Tuesday, one day before his 48th birthday. A forensic team later removed Fernandez’s body, taking him to the Insitute of Legal Medicine for an autopsy. Residents told one publication the mayor had been going about his normal duties as late as Monday and attend e d t wo se p a ra te events in El Borge and Almachar with the PSOE deputy, Miguel Angel Heredia. vey their condolences, love and support to his family.” The President of the Junta de Andalucia, Susana Diaz, took to Twitter to say, ‘I do not have words for the pain I felt when I learned about the death,’ adding, ‘I think of his family, of his neighbours in El Borge and I cannot imagine how they are feeling.’ Fellow PSOE party member, and mayor of Iznate, Gregorio Campos also said, “we are dismayed. Political stink NERJA Council has met to discuss the ongoing issue of the town’s delayed sewage plant. Jose Maria Rivas, councillor for Infrastructure, said the council was meeting at 11am today to find out, ‘first hand,’ what progress had been made on the project. Nerja Council originally announced work would be complete in early 2019 but has now
instead changed the date to early next year. The project has been hit by a number of delays after its builders faced bankruptcy. The works, which began again in February following a 10-month break, will see a further collection point installed in the area surrounding Burriana beach which will take wastewater to a treatment plant.

SPANISH police have arrested a British man in Almuñecar for allegedly being part of an international drug trafficking ring. The suspect, and another Belgian man, were said to be part of a gang based in Mijas and Antequera which transported drugs between the Netherlands and Spain. The group allegedly trafficked drugs hidden in products shipped by a road transport company, which was not aware of the operation. The gang reportedly used a warehouse on an industrial estate in Antequera as a front for their operation, supposedly only visiting the site outside of normal working hours. The Guardia Civil caught the pair after watching the warehouse and intercepting one of its lorries, finding 184 kilograms of hashish and 70 kilograms of marihuana. Police later arrested the men at their home in Almuñecar, as well as a Spanish man in Nerja for allegedly heading up the operation.
