CELEBRATIONS: Revellers packed Plaza Vieja for a free concert by Music Has No Limits. THOUSANDS turned out to celebrate Almeria’s designation as gastronomy capital of Spain for next year. A l m e r i a C i t y ’s P l a z a Vieja was packed with revellers last Friday night keen to join in the party atmosphere and to rock to music by Music Has No Limits. T h e b a n d ’s ‘ p l a y l i s t o f your life’ performance covered diverse musical genres, going from hits by Queen, Michael Jackson and Guns N’ Roses, to electronic and classical. The free concert was organised by Almeria Council’s City Promotion depart-
ment to thank the local population for their support. Before the music got going there was the screening of a video recorded by Almeria mayor Ramon Fernandez-Pachec, in which he thanked Almerians for their confidence and participation in what is ‘a historic moment’ for Almeria. “It has been an intense year, of a lot of work, and a collective effort to come up with a serious and responsible project, which excites not only the capital, but the whole province. And we have far surpassed this challenge,” the mayor said.
“The projection of our gastronomy, of our tourism and the Almeria brand in general has been so great at national and international level that we felt like winners before it was announced by the jury. “This is nothing more than the beginning,” Fernandez-Pacheco’s message concluded, adding that Almerians could expect a year of multiple activities centred around Almeria’s gastronomy. Also taking part in the city centre event were about a dozen businesses from the provincial gove r n m e n t ’s Almeria Flavours brand, specialis-
ing in products ranging from beers and gin to tomatoes and cold meats.
