Bomb probe A COURT has remanded a man in custody in connection with a bomb that was found on a Marbella urbanisation last month. National Police said the explosive was primed to go off when a maintenance worker found it in a bin on Calle Lavanda in the Alto de los Monteros urbanisation. It was found wrapped in two plastic bags on September 11. Officers with the pol i c e ’s T E D A X e x p l o s i v e specialists division were called in and confirmed the package contained explosives before destroying it in a controlled demolition. Police investigating the find said the bomb was likely designed for a ‘selective strike’ against a particular individual rather than to cause mass casualties. School drug raids THE Mijas Local Police dog squad have seized around 125 grams of hashish in raids on schools in the area as part of efforts to tackle child drug use. The operation, which took place in collaboration with the Guardia Civil, was launched to stop drugs being sold in schools. It was also undertaken to prevent recreational substances falling into the hands of schoolchildren, according to Mijas’ mayor. Juan Carlos Maldonado said the safety of the town’s residents, including
its children, was one of the council’s top priorities. “We first began these operations with dogs two years ago and our emphasis has always been on keeping drugs away from our young people,” he said. “It is important that residents take up healthy
