By Joe Gerrard THE man awaiting trial for the alleged kidnapping of Agnese Klavina has been arrested in connection with an incident where a man was run over and his car stolen. Craig Porter, a Briton in his late 30’s was arrested in Estepona while on bail awaiting trial on kidnapping charges that date back to 2014. He has been the subject of a police search for his part in an alleged attempted manslaughter since August 24. The probe is in relation to an alleged hit and run and carjacking said to have taken place in Estepona. A police patrol found and detained him in Marbella in what began as an attempt to trace a speeding vehicle. Officers said Porter was in a white Seat Ateca when he and two others were pulled over on Marbella’s Avenida de las Naciones Unidas at 6am last Saturday. Police stopped the vehicle while it was allegedly en route to Ronda after being alerted by the Guardia Civil. He was with two other British men and all three were taken to a police station after failing to produce documents to identify themselves.

It’s an honour TORREMOLINOS’ council has presented the British community in the town with an award in recognition of its contribution to local life. The British community received the town’s Medal of Honour at an event marking 30 years since Torremolinos separated from Malaga City and became self-running. The British make up around 20 per cent of those who visit the town every year. Jose Ortiz was present at the extraordinary plenary session of the town’s council to present the award last Thursday. Ortiz said when announcing
the awarding of the medal that it was in recognition of the British impact on social, economic and cultural life in Torremolinos. A council spokesperson previously said: “Torremolinos has a long tradition of communities of British residents and
tourists going back centuries.” Awards were also given out to Professor Francisco Aguilar Perez and Jose Losada Santiago ‘Carrete.’ Micaela Ferandez Martin, of the Hostal Micaela, was named the town’s favourite daughter.

Prosecutors have requested that Porter be sentenced to 12 years in prison for kidnapping should he be found guilty at his upcoming trial at a Malaga Criminal Court. He was ordered to hand over his passport to authorities in 2014 and has remained on bail since.
