‘Lucky to be alive’ By Tara Rippin A SCOTTISH holidaymaker stabbed six times during a fight with seven English men at a Magaluf hotel was expected to fly home yesterday after discharging himself from hospital. Robert Watson, 31, from Ayrshire, is said to be ‘lucky to be alive’ after suffering ‘very deep wounds’ to his back, stomach, buttocks and near his liver, according to brother Andrew Mullholland. The 20-year-old said he and Robert, who arrived at the resort with a friend the day before, had left their room heading to reception when the group began calling them ‘Scottish b******s.’ Andrew claims a fight broke out, just before midnight on Saturday, and the alleged attackers pulled two knives. He said he was ‘fighting with one of them’ when his brother shouted that he had been stabbed. The pair had to

lock themselves in their hotel room while they waited for emergency services to arrive. The assailants were unknown to the siblings. Andrew Fries, 29, from Gloucester, faces charges of attempted murder, while Anthony Muggleston, Robert Stafford and Kieran Boughton, all 26, face charges of affray. They appeared at the Court of Instruction in Palma this week, having been arrested early hours on Sunday, and were released while further investigations are carried out. Despite his injuries, Robert
requested that he be released from Son Espases Hospital to return home, where he lives with his grandparents Margaret, 70, and George West, 73. In an interview with an international newspaper, the victim’s grandmother said he ‘was very lucky, he nearly died’ adding that Robert is ‘stable but in a lot of pain.’ Still in shock, she went on to say that the car enthusiast is a ‘fair guy’ who doesn’t drink much and spends most of his time with his girlfriend. Robert is expected to seek
hospital attention on his return. Meanwhile, Michael Reese, 64, the partner of Andrew Fries’ mother Mary, 55, who apparently flew to Mallorca to support the accused after his arrest, said they couldn’t ‘see him getting into that sort of trouble.’ He added that the 29-yearold gardener had flown to the popular Mallorcan holiday resort to celebrate his birthday.
