By Joe Gerrard NATIONAL POLICE officers have arrested five suspects, of which three are British nationals, in connection with several hundred kilos of drugs worth millions found aboard a yacht in Ceuta. A total of 670 kilos of hashish were aboard the private hire vessel in the harbour of the Spanish African enclave. Police claimed those arrested had posed as tourists to stop police from catching them with the drugs that have an estimated street value of around âŹ9 million. Officers said the vessel was preparing to sail for the mainland shortly before they raided it and made the arrests. Police detained the three British nationals along with a woman who accompanied them and a taxi driver who allegedly took them to Ceutaâs marina. All five were held on suspicion of drugs trafficking. The nationalities of the woman and taxi driver were not specified.

Brits held SEIZED: Officers found the drugs aboard a yacht in Ceuta. The five were arrested while loading the boat with what appeared to be supermarket bags. Officers thought the suspects looked suspicious, so they decided to search them and the vessel. âThose on board made several purchases in a supermarket in the city and took the bags back to the marina in a taxi. Their movements aroused the suspicion of the
officers,â a National Police spokesperson said. Once aboard they found 230 kilos of hashish stashed among plastic bags and hidden under foodstuffs. A further 440 kilos were found in various rooms on the boat and officers then made their arrest of the five suspects. Police said the hashish most likely came from Mo-
rocco and that they would have been hidden somewhere in Ceuta prior to being placed on board the yacht. The haul comes as police seized almost seven tons of marihuana from a British-led gang on the Costa del Sol in August. Officers claimed the ringleader was a British man who hid the drugs in his San Pedro de Alcantara home.
