By Gabriella Elkhouri THREE aeroplanes and two helicopters worked together with ground units to fight a forest fire which was intensified by high winds. The blaze on Monday destroyed almost 12 hectares of wood and shrubland in the area of Cales de Mallorca, in the municipality of Manacor. Aerial and firefighters from the Institut Balaer de la Natura (Ibanat) in unison with the Mallorca fire service battled to extinguish the flames in strong winds, which saw the inferno reignite after a few hours of bringing it under control. The fire started around 2.15pm and quickly spread to Calas Bota, Virgili, Pilota and Magraner. As the blaze gathered momentum,

Narcotics seized at sea A YACHT carrying 300 kilos of cocaine was intercepted by Customs in the waters between Mallorca and Ibiza. Four Dutch people and one German on board, aged between 19 and 55, appeared before the courts on Tuesday and are now in custody. As well as the drugs, Dutch police working in Holland in conjunction with Spanish authorities, seized €100,000 and five kilos of gold.
