By Joe Gerrard A GERMAN man has been rescued from a cave in the Mijas area after spending more than 36 hours trapped without food, water or warm clothes. The 23-year-old was reported missing by his roommate last Monday. He had been holidaying in the Rancho de La Paz area of the town before he vanished on Sunday morning, the roommate said. Guardia Civil officers were despatched to the area and were aided by volunteers in their search efforts. They combed the area on foot during the day and searches had to be suspended at night before resuming in the morning. Police and volunteers made for a ravine in the area

said he wanted to visit and take pictures of the area a few days before. Officers explored the
caves before finding one which was several levels deep. Police sources said those searching had to crawl through passages to get inside. Police began to hear cries for help from someone they said was around three metres deep into the cave. They then found the 23year-old who had become stuck on a ledge on the second level of the cave and could not get out on his own. Officers established direct contact with the man. He told them he had been inside
for several hours and did not have food or water. He also lacked warm clothes. Police said the man did not have serious injuries. They said they found him in a weak state, thirsty and disorientated due to spending so many hours in darkness in the cave.
