Jailed over abuse A DEFENDANT who pleaded guilty to physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend following an argument has been sentenced to six months in prison by a court in Malaga. The judge ordered that he be prevented from going within 500 metres of the victim for two years and for him to pay out €150 in compensation to her.

The court heard the defendant and his ex-partner were drinking in a bar in Malaga when they began having an argument in May 2016. They had been in a relationship since 2014. The man then punched the woman twice in the face. She was later taken to hospital with head wounds, swelling and blood clots which took around five days to heal.

Child ‘trapped’ A MEDICAL workers’ union has accused the Andalucian Health Service (SAS) of carelessness after claiming a boy and his family got stuck in a lift in Malaga Children’s Hospital. The Medical Union of Malaga (SMM) alleged the child and others were trapped in the lift for around half an hour on the seventh floor of the hospital. The boy was waiting to have an operation at the time, SMM added. “The SMM has already criticised the bad state of the facilities of the Maternal and Child Hospital of Malaga in general. “We have pointed to this lift as an example

of the slovenliness and the bad management at the time when fixing defects is necessary,” the union said in a statement. The SMM added when children are taken from wards and into operating theatres they were often transferred in a bed with oxygen bottles and drips attached to them. It is unclear if the child in this case was subject to such arrangements. The union said it would ask senior officials at the SAS to provide health and safety records to them in order to shed light on safety at the hospital.
