Cyclist crash death
One dead and two seriously injured after road accident by Joe Gerrard A 28-year-old woman accused of killing a cyclist and injuring several others while driving under the influence of marihuana has appeared in court in Manacor. The crash, which left 47-yearold German cyclist Christoph Bohnen dead, reportedly took place on the MA-15 road between Arta and Capdepera. Two other cyclists were in a serious condition after the accident while a further six suffered minor injuries, according to reports. Anais Marco, the woman accused of causing the crash, has appeared before a judge in the
Court of Instruction Number One in Manacor. The court heard the defendant, from Arta, got up at dawn last Thursday to drive to Capdepera to clean chalets there. Prosecutors said while driving her Porsche Cayenne towards the town she veered off the road and crashed into nine German cyclists at around 9.30am. Guardia Civil officers performed a drugs test around three quarters of an hour after the crash was said to have taken place. The results from the saliva sample tested positive for marihuana, the court heard. The defendant argued she had
been dazzled by sunlight which had stopped her from being able to see the road, resulting in the crash. She also denied being under the influence of marihuana but admitted to smoking the drug the night before driving. Police told the court they had found five cigarette butts containing marihuana in the ashtray of her car following a search. Father of two Christoph Bohnen died in hospital on Thursday evening hours after the crash took place. Gregorio Serrano, the Director General of Traffic for Spain, confirmed the death on Twitter.
“One of the German cyclists run over this morning on the island of Mallorca is deceased. RIP, he wrote. The cyclist, from Bavaria in Germany, was in Mallorca for the first time to train for competitions. He was reportedly a semi-professional cyclist, swam and did athletics.
