Child porn ring raid TWO Mallorcan men suspected of being members of a national paedophile ring have been arrested following a police operation. A total of 40 men, among which were professors, engineers and public employees, were detained following police raids on 42 homes across Spain. Officers seized laptops, CDs, DVDs and more than 100 hard drives in the raid which took place after an investigation into the ring. Police alleged the group used software and browsers to access the ‘dark web’ in order to share illegal images of children, according to reports. The dark web refers to parts of the internet where outlawed material is shared and sold and is accessed with special software which enables users to avoid detection. Four girls claimed they suffered abuse and harassment from one of the group’s members arrested in Alicante.

SIX elderly residents in a Palma nursing home, as well as two of its workers, have become infected by the mange skin disease. Although it is a nondangerous illness, it is very contagious and causes itching and skin rashes. This is unfortunately not the first time an outbreak of mange has hit the home. In November 2014 more than 200 people including residents, their relatives and staff were affected. The Council believes the infection came from outside the centre, probably through a relative or other visitor.
