Couple killed in gas leak A MARRIED couple have died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in Algarrobo. The National Police are now investigating after Jose Manuel G, 56, and Araceli M, 57, were found dead by one of their three children. They lived in a rural area known as Cortijada de los Gutierrez, near the Baviera golf course, after retiring early due to health reasons from their work as street vendors. Police believe the incident occurred after the couple decided to burn coal in a bucket inside the house even though it did not have a chimney. The man is said to have been found on the bedroom floor while the woman was lying in the bathroom.

Crocked monsieur A SPEEDING motorist is set to be charged with vehicle theft and forgery. It comes after a Local Police patrol stopped a Frenchman for speeding on Almuñecar’s Avenida Juan Carlos I. When the officers asked to see his personal documentation and that of his vehicle, a black Peugeot 308 registered in France, the driver produced a Spanish licence before claiming that the car’s papers were with a family member in his home country. He was held for questioning after the officers noticed that his identification had been “manipulated” police said in a statement. And their suspicions were further raised when it transpired that he did not have the necessary Permiso de Circulacion log book, a mandatory supporting document. Investigators then contacted the vehicle’s manufacturer and confirmed that the chassis number had been tampered with, leading to the driver’s arrest. A further probe revealed that the car had been reported stolen from a French company in France on March 1, 2017.
