Highway drugs bust
NABBED: Nervous driver was hiding huge haul. A ROUTINE traffic stop turned into a major drugs bust on the A-7 motorway at Viator. Police uncovered more than 10 kilograms of vacuum-packed marihuana stashed in the boot of a car. Guardia Civil officers detected nervousness in the young driver passing through their checkpoint. Upon closer inspection they also noticed a strong smell of marihuana radiating from the vehicle. When asked if he was transporting drugs of any kind, the 26-year-old Almeria City resident replied that someone may have smoked a “joint” in the car recently.
World Travel Market a hit ALMERIA Provincial Council made a positive impression at the World Travel Market event in London. The world-leading tourism fair, which attracts over 45,000 industry professionals from across the globe, was again held at London’s ExCel Arena. And provincial vice-president, Javier A Garcia, reported that he held a series of positive meetings with tour operators, airlines, marketing firms and international media outlets.

Trophy killers Police pounce on poachers By Matthew Elliott Poachers who killed a wild goat and took its head as a trophy are facing prosecution. Guardia Civil officers on anti-poaching duty in the desert terrain grew suspicious when they saw a vehicle pass by without its lights
on, despite it being nightfall. They were able to follow the vehicle using the intermittent flashes of its rear brake lights as a guide. The van was pulled over on the A L-3103. Ins ide were three men, two in full camouflaged hunting gear. There were binoculars and live a mmunition on the seats. Inspecting the van, police found two rifles and the decapitated head of a Spanish Ibex, also known as an Iber-
ian wild goat. It was still stained with blood and improperly secured for transport. Checking the men’s documentation, police found that they had no permission to hunt in the area, no hunting liability insurance, or even a generic hunting licence. The rifles were legally owned. All three men were reported for poaching offe nc e s a nd w ill like ly be fined. The Guardia Civil officers confiscated their trophy.

Stab victim survives A WOMAN remains in serious condition in Torrecardenas Hospital after being stabbed by her partner, who later committed suicide. The Moroccan man was found hanging in a plastic greenhouse in the El Alquian neighbourhood of Almeria City after apparently believing that his wife was dead. But she was found alive at the home of the couple, who have two children, and doctors say that she is stable after receiving a knife wound to the throat.
