By Linda Hall MURDERED Alicante businesswoman Maria del Carmen Martinez’s mobile phone allegedly connected to WhatsApp 30 minutes after investigators believe she was shot. The widow of former CAM bank president Vicente Sala was shot at point-blank range last December at the Novocar showroom, a family-owned car dealership in Alicante City. Her son-in-law Miguel Lopez, remanded earlier this year and released soon afterwards, is the only suspect. His defence lawyer Javier Sanchez-Vera now claims that an examination of Maria del Carmen’s phone revealed that she must have been shot as she connected to WhatsApp at 6.55pm (18:55:23) without sending a message. and the workshop manager contacted Lopez a few seconds later. Fatally wounded Maria del Carmen was surrounded by Novocar employees at 6.55pm and pathologists put the time of death at 7pm. When found she was no longer in the car and could not have reached her bag and phone on the passenger seat.
