Three in amazing escape THREE cars have been involved in a major car crash in the town of Callosa de Segura. Witnesses at the scene expressed their surprise that in the aftermath of the incident there was not a single injury to any of the drivers or passers-by. A police probe has been launched after three cars collided with each other along the CV-900 that links Callosa and Redován. The vehicles crashed into the outside terrace of a bar located in front of the local cemetery, knocking over tables and chairs where, fortunately, there were no customers sitting at the time. The vehicles then collided with some giant plant pots that made up the border of the terrace and some small trees ended up between two of the cars, with the soil strewn across the pavement and road.

Not such a smarty pants A 41-YEAR-OLD man has been held after he threatened another with a knife as he was trying to withdraw money from a Torrevieja cash point. The victim was taken by surprise at a town centre ATM located at the junction of Calle Azorín and Vista Alegre. The crime was captured by the bank’s CCTV system and showed that the attacker tried to conceal his identity by wearing a pair of underpants on his head as a mask. He was already known to police and it has been revealed that the day after the attack he had threatened his father with what is believed to be the same knife.

Not guilty Murder charges dropped By Jay Emeny

Five police officers have been sentenced to four years in prison over the death of a man in Costa Blanca. They admitted that they took Diego Perez against his will to a secluded bay in Cartagena and did nothing to avoid his death. The shocking incident occurred after the deceased called the National Police after receiving death threats from his neighbours for stealing their bicycle. But two weeks later his body was found floating off Cala Cortina some four kilometres away from his home. An initial probe focused on his neighbours, but a witness - who had to be placed into protective custody came forward and told of how three police cars turned up at Diego’s house and forced him into one of the vehicles while punching him. The officers claimed that

although they ignored police protocol, they had not forced the victim to come with them, and once they arrived at their destination he ran away. An autopsy revealed however that Diego had died before hitting the water and after suffering multiple head traumas and several broken vertebrae. The officers originally faced up to 24 years in

prison for murder and unlawful arrest however in court it was agreed that they had taken the victim to the beach against his will but they did not kill him. They were instead sentenced to two years in prison for involuntary manslaughter and a further two years for unlawful arrest. One of the officers died in custody of pancreatitis before the trial.
