GUARDIA CIVIL officers smashed a drug smuggling ring operating at Almeria Port. A search of a large trailer arriving from Melilla, North Africa yielded 125 kilograms of hashish stashed packages above the wheels. Police also found €52,655 in cash hidden in cars accompanying the trailer. Guardia Civil officers watched as gang members placed the hash in the wheels once the trailer was loaded. The traffickers were then seen changing the wheels in Almeria, before making their way to various industrial estates across the province. Rather than act immediately, the Guardia Civil bid their time and detailed the gang’s movements, before moving in to secure a major bust.
