ISSUE NO. 1674
3 - 9 August 2017
Kicking up a stink RESIDENTS of the Santa Rosa urbanisation and Vilches beach in Torrox are up in arms after raw sewage was discharged into a local stream. Socialist councillor Juanma Cortes intends to raise the issue at the town council’s next plenary session. “This is of great importance for the health and welfare of our people and in a municipality like ours it cannot be that the mayor of Torrox has ignored the issue for months,” he said. “This is yet another demonstration of the irresponsibility and deaf ears to the social problems that are piling up without any solution on the part of the Popular Party council.” He continued: “According to the residents, the sewage has been discharging continuously for several months but they have not been offered the opportunity to know, thanks to the lack of intervention by the council, neither the origin nor the precise type of the waters that are flowing to the beach.” One local said that the smell is “pestilent and nauseating.”

Bizarre bikini incident A SEMI-NUDE British woman was hospitalised after being found in a confused state in Valle-Niza. According to a police statement, the dark-skinned casualty was wearing a bikini top under a t-shirt, and was otherwise naked. In her hands she was carrying the bottom part of her swimwear and her shoes. She tried to flee when officers approached her as she wandered through shrubbery near Avenida Amatista, before being tracked down near San Pitar archaeological complex. Her pupils were dilated and she appeared to be having a hallucinogenic episode as she claimed her father and a friend had tried to kill her. Paramedics were forced to use sedatives to calm her.
