Brit rescued amid concerns
All at sea By Darren James A 76-year-old British bather on the point of drowning has been rescued on Carabassi beach in Elche. Lifeguards were alerted to his plight by a concerned holidaymaker and reached the victim as he was about to stop breathing. Once ashore he was transferred to the General Hospital once his condition had been stabilised, with the incident occurring in choppy water as the yellow flag was flying. It comes as a Spanish Red Cross report revealed that seven of every 10 people rescued on Alicante beaches this year have been foreign.

They used home-made tools to force entry before targeting small valuables including mobile phones, laptop computers and jewellery, although in some cases vehicles were also stolen and credit card details were often copied.
