Stag horror Brit holidaymaker killed by drink driver Heartfelt tributes have flooded in for a British man killed by a driver high on drink and drugs in Magaluf. Father-of-two Adrian O’Kane was enjoying a stag weekend with friends when he was mowed down by a speeding car at around 3am on Sunday April 23. The 40-year-old had just flown over from Birmingham where he lived with family and worked on a building site. He had two young daughters and was described as a true gent by his friends, who knew him as Swanny. Mr O’Kane did not have travel insurance, but a Just Giving page set up to repatriate his body to the UK has seen a terrific response. Police received several calls about an out-of-control car just moments before the Ford Focus tore down the packed party strip. Some reports suggested that the driver pleaded with a local taxi driver not to call the police after the horrific incident. The
39-year-old tested positive for alcohol and unspecified drugs before being arrested. A court denied him bail on Monday (April 24) and he is expected to be charged with manslaughter and dangerous driving while under the influence. It was the second time in less than a week that a British tourist was killed on Mallorca by a driver high on alcohol and drugs. Cycling safety campaigner Bryan Stout, 86, died in Alcudia on April 18 in the middle of a month-long bike tour of the island. See page 5 for more.
