COSTA BLANCA NORTH
YOUR PAPER, YOUR VOICE, YOUR OPINION
Floody minded Council agrees €1.4 million deal By Linda Hall and Jack Troughton A treacherous Costa Blanca ‘barranco’ which can suddenly become a deadly torrent after heavy rain, claiming three lives since 2011, is to be made safe. The Barranco de Finistrat, normally a dry riverbed, is to be re-channelled in a €1.4 million project announced by the local authority in a bid to end the risk of flash flooding. A 79-year-old Spanish man drowned at Cala Finestrat beach near Benidorm last December after being swept out to sea despite the efforts of local police officers to rescue him. At the height of a severe storm the victim tried to reach his parked car but lost his footing and was dragged away in the flood. Turn to page 4
