By Matthew Elliott A heartwarming community effort will see funds raised for the victims of the tragic road accident on the CV-60. A family car overturned in Montichelvo, killing the father and seriously injured the mother and their two young children on March 4. The family live in Onteniente but are originally from Bulgaria. Now, the president of the region’s official Bulgarian community has pledged to raise funds for the funeral and the repatriation of the dead man’s body so he can rest in his home country. Ivan, who was just 36 when he died, was a much-loved figure in the community, running a car wash in Enguera with his partner Yana, 27. Yana has only just come out of the ICU at Valencia’s General Hospital. Their daughter, aged five, and son, six, both remain under observation in hospital with different injuries and psychological symptoms.
RESCUE OPERATION: Firefighters at the crash scene. Their car veered off the road, a notorious black spot, on Saturday night. The crash was severe, killing Ivan instantly. But the disaster wasn’t discovered until the Sunday morning when a local farmer came across the wrecked Mercedes 180. Yana and her daughter were forced to spend the night trapped in the car with their injuries. The boy had managed to escape and was found by firefighters outside the vehicle in a state of shock.
