POLICE OPERATION: Gang boss was last to be picked up.
Robbery boss arrested in raid Gang carried out 50 attacks and thefts By Simon Firth The head of a criminal gang suspected of carrying out a string of violent robberies has been arrested. Five men alleged to be members of the group had already been captured but the man thought to have masterminded their attacks had eluded detectives. He was eventually picked up in an operation which police believe could clear up at least 50 offences, ranging from violent robbery to the theft of cars. Petrol stations, bars and
other commercial premises had been targeted by the gang who range in age from 34 down to just 16. The robberies and attacks started in September last year in the Elda and Petrer areas. Police said the first two members of the gang were picked on December 21 after stealing a car. After a surveillance operation, this led to the arrest of the third member. Searches at the homes of all three men led them to focus on two brothers in the town of Villena. After another monitoring
operation, both men were arrested on December 27. The final piece of the jigsaw was carried out when police arrested the man in charge of the gang. So far more than 40 different crimes have already been cleared up, according to police.
