Pilfering pair By Sam Croft A Malaga Court has sentenced five people - one of them a Guardia Civil officer for a drug trafficking operation which took place between Morocco and Axarquia. The prosecution said the officer supplied the gang with valuable inside information between 2010 and 2011 in exchange for bribes. Using his extensive experience and background knowledge the officer provided the traffickers with guidance and inside intelligence, receiving payment of €40,000 every time the drugs were shipped. Court papers show the gang was eventually brought
down in May 2011. Officers watched the traffickers disembark in the area of Torrox before moving to a residence on the municipal boundary. Police eventually swooped on the property, seizing 58 packages of hashish which had a net weight of nearly 1,700 kilos, a quantity said to have a market value of €2.5 million.
THE Guardia Civil have apprehended two young ‘Eastern European’ men who performed numerous robberies on cars parked at famous tourist spots throughout Malaga Province. The looters were spotted breaking into cars at the iconic Caminito del Rey in Ardales, although it later transpired that they were also guilty of committing similar breakSee page 13 ins in Mijas, Fuengirola, Nerja and Coin. The members of the group were sentenced for crimes which include belonging to a criminal organisation and public health offences. The Guardia Civil officer was jailed for a total of seven years and ordered to pay a fine of €3 million.
