First prize for the best working conditions By Adele Land MOJACAR can now proudly boast that it officially is home to an award winning town council responsible for the improvement of workplaces across the community. The beautiful whitewashed hill-top town has a long, multi-faceted history which covers over 4,000 years. Populated by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Greeks, and Moors, it still remains a junction for many cultures and in more recent years expats in particular. This melting pot of a conurbation can now add a new accolade to its colourful record. The prize, awarded by the Muprespa Brotherhood, comes after the work the council has done in reducing workplace accidents and occupational diseases, and now the local government can reap the rewards with an important incentive bonus which will add to town coffers for future projects. The award, presented in public recognition to the council and those involved including companies and organisations that have contributed to the improvement in environment and safety, was received by the mayor of

Mojacar, Rosa Maria Cano. She welcomed the prize and expressed gratitude on behalf of the council. The mayor also wanted to highlight the importance, both for her and for the gov-

ernment in power, that she has always had to comply strictly with all safety standards that mark the law, observing compliance, for the sake of the interests of municipal workers.
