La Parata is a hillside urbanisation with dozens of large luxury villas inhabited by expatriates of various nationalities. The area was one of the first in Mojacar playa area to be developed more than 30 years ago and has been popular with yearround residents along with holiday home owners. Over the last few years the area and its residents have suffered from ongoing water problems with pipes beneath the roads regularly bursting, leaving the area without water. Following a series of meetings between Mojacar Council and the La Parata resident’s association, the council agreed to intervene and negotiate with water company Galasa to arrange for the pipes to be properly repaired.

Throughout the urbanisation, along every road large trenches were dug in order to access and replace the damaged water pipes. The work on the pipes was completed a number of weeks ago but the damage caused to

the roads has yet to be repaired. Galasa confirmed that it was only responsible for repairing the pipes and the job of repairing the road belongs to the town council. A number of property owners rent out their villas to holidaymakers throughout the year and the ongoing situation with the water and roads has caused problems for the renters.

Kevin Worrell holidays in La Parata every spring, and told Euro Weekly News: “Last year we were without water for four days out of our 14-day holiday and this year we have difficulty accessing the villa due to the state of the roads.” The council confirmed the repair work would be completed, but could not give a date for the work.
