Over my dead body ALBOX mayor summons Strasbourg as Irish woman rejects post By Matthew Elliott A judge has ordered Albox mayor Rogelio Mena to resign immediately from his post after being found guilty of financial misdeed and banned from holding public office. In a dramatic turn, however, the Socialist kingpin has rejected the court’s demands and now threatens to take his case all the way to Strasbourg. Mena claims that he has lost all faith in the justice system and will now pursue the matter in the highest court in all Europe. The mayor is accused of misappropriation of public funds, using public money for his personal use and withholding financial information from opposition groups. Opposition group, Partido Popular (PP) also accused him of creating ‘jobs for the boys’, making council positions available to former col-

tions. Hillen, who is also president of homeowners group AUAN, has said she has no intention of taking up the position. Names likely to throw their hat in the ring include 33year-old Sonia Cerdan, the current third deputy mayor
along with first deputy Tito Carillo, who is the current finance councillor. PP spokesperson Juan Pedro Quiles, said of the imminent new council that he hoped the new mayor would “provide transparency and rid the council of corruption.”
