by Adele Land Voting is under way to name Andalucia’s prettiest town and Mojacar is in the race. An online competition has been launched to find the most attractive town in Andalucia, organised by travel website Viajestic. Some 20 towns and villages were put forward for the competition via a social media campaign and the winning town will be entered into the annual ‘prettiest village in Spain’ competition. Mojacar became a part of the association of the prettiest villages in Spain in 2013 during a ceremony at the town hall, and a plaque at the entrance of the village was erected. On the town’s official Facebook page, followers were urged to vote for Mojacar in this latest poll to ensure its place in the next stage. To qualify for entry, towns and villages must satisfy certain

Earlier in the week Mojacar was lagging behind in sixth place with some 7,000 votes.

In the lead was the town of Marchena in Sevilla. Keen for Mojacar to proceed to the next stage, proud residents took matters into their own hands this week by posting and sharing the website on popular, local social media forums.
